ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The 2013 cross country season opened with a win for the women's team and a second-place finish for the men.
Rebekah Lawson finished first in the women's 4k race with a time of 14:45.
Craig Munie was the top-finisher for the Redhawks with a fourth-place finish in 19:29.
"We achieved our goal of running a controlled race today," said head coach
Ryan Lane. "We preformed well in the heat and I am very excited to see what we can do in the coming months at our true race distances."Â

Four Redhawks finished in the top-ten on the women's side including Lawson,
Angela Sumner (third-place, 15:02),
Mary Dohogne (eighth, 15:29), and
Madalyn Stichnot (ninth, 15:34).
Laura Chavez placed just outside the top-ten in 13
th with a time of 15:47.
Melanie Lacey (15:58) and
Megan Parks (16:09) ran in the race coming in 19
th and 24
th-places, respectively.
Lindsey Seabaugh (26
th, 16:27),
Maria Trowbridge (31
st, 16:40), and
Madeline Gaul (49
th, 19:34) also competed in the season opener.

On the men's side, Munie was the only top-ten finisher but five other men finished in the top-twenty.

Charles Johnson (12
th, 19:58),
Shane Brown (14
th, 20:02),
Andrew Gordon (15
th, 20:10), and
Ryan Anderson (16
th, 20:16) rounded out the top-twenty for Southeast.
Sean Brown (21:09), Colton Strotheide (21:12) and
Tyler Holmes (21:31) finished just outside the top-twenty with
Tyson Stoverink (22:17) rounded out the 6k race for the Redhawks.

On the women's side, host-school Washington University came in second while Columbia College came in third. William Woods University and Saint Louis rounded out the top-five.

Washington University took the top-team spot in the men's race with the Wash U Alumni team taking third. Saint Louis and William Woods rounded-out the top-five.

Southeast will participate in the SIUE Cross Country Challenge Sept. 13 hosted by OVC foe SIUE in Edwardsville, Ill.Â
