CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -The Southeast Missouri volleyball team opens the 2013 season at the Maroon Classic hosted by Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. this weekend. The season begins against the Bulldogs on Friday at 1 p.m. followed by a match-up with the UALR Trojans at 4 p.m. The Redhawks will wrap-up the tournament with another match against the Bulldogs on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

Season Openers
The Redhawks are 9-14 in season openers dating back to their first NCAA Division I season of 1991. The Redhawks won the 2012 season opener against Valparaiso at the Hawkeye Invitational, 3-1. Under Yankus, Southeast is 1-1 in season openers in her two-year career with the Redhawks.

OVC Preseason Poll
The Redhawks were picked to finish atop the West Division in the Ohio Valley Conference in the Preseason Poll. Seniors Emily Coon, Colleen Yarber and Julie Shives were named to the Preseason All-OVC Team.

Series Histories
In the first meeting between Southeast Missouri and Mississippi State on Sept. 11, 2010, the Redhawks won the match 3-0. The Redhawks and UALR last met on Aug. 27, 2011. Southeast lost the match 3-0. Southeast is behind in the series history against the Trojans, 4-5.

Scouting the Opponents
In 2012, the Bulldogs recorded a 4-25 record and lost seven letterwinners at the conclusion of the season. UALR finished the 2012 campaign 13-14 overall, 9-5 in the Sun Belt Conference. Mississippi State's roster carries 15 players; 10 of which are newcomers this season. Of UALR's 12-person roster, seven are newcomers. The Trojans also don't feature any seniors on the 2013 roster.
