News & Notes
The Kids are Alright – With eight freshmen and 10 newcomers, the Redhawks feature several new faces on the 2013 roster. That youth is already making an impact with four freshmen starting each of the first two matches.
Natasha Minor tallied the Redhawks' lone goal for the weekend on an assist from fellow freshman
Christina Rohde. Minor (176 minutes), Rohde (169),
Jennifer Antonacci (168) and
Kaitlin Kuznacic (132) played more minutes than any field player on opening weekend.
New Look Defense – Some growing pains might be expected on the Southeast defense seeing as the Redhawks opened up the year with four new starters at the position at Nebraska. Seniors
Jacey Boyko and
Stephanie Palmer saw extended time at outside back after converting from forward and midfield, respectively. Sophomore
Ashley Brendel saw two starts after converting from forward while freshman
Christina Rohde started her first-collegiate contests and led the defense with 169 minutes played on opening weekend.
Keeping Busy – With Southeast figuring its defensive rotation, senior goalkeeper
Ashton Aubuchon was plenty busy on opening weekend. The Florissant, Mo., native started both contests and faced 23 total shots in 180 minutes. She started the year with 10 saves at Nebraska and turned away nine more attempts at UMKC two days later. Aubuchon finished the week with 19 saves and a .760 save percentage. Her performance moved her up to third in the Redhawks' career saves list with 172 stops, surpassing Beth Guccione's 154.
