Redhawks Face-Off with Jacksonville and Tennessee Tech

Southeast Missouri softball travels to Jacksonville and Tennessee Tech for East division match-ups.

The Redhawks take their second East division road trip this season.

Scouting the Gamecocks

Jacksonville currently sits in second place in the East division of the conference. The preseason East division favorites are currently 5-4 in OVC play this season. Sara Borders leads the Gamecock offense batting .358 this season. Borders leads the team in doubles (13) and is second on the team in home runs (6) with 22 RBI. Three other Gamecock batters are batting .300 or better. Tiffany Harbin is the Gamecock's top pitcher with an 11-7 record and a 2.47 ERA through 127.1 innings pitched. Harbin has struck out 169 batters in 2013. 

Scouting the Golden Eagles

Tennessee Tech currently ranks third, right behind Jacksonville, in the East division rankings. The Golden Eagles are below .500 with a 2-3 record in conference play this season. Two Golden Eagle batters are batting .300 or higher this season with Melody Christian leading the way with a .379 batting average. In the circle, Taylor Ketchum has pitched 93.0 innings with a recorded 2.03 ERA and a 10-6 record. 

Series Histories

The Redhawks are 3-26 all-time against the Gamecocks. Jacksonville came to Cape a season ago where they took two-of-three from the Redhawks. Against the Golden Eagles, Southeast is 39-36 all-time. Similar to the Jacksonville series last year, Tennessee Tech took two-of-three from Southeast in Cookeville. 

Last Time Out

After being swept by SIUE, the Redhawks split a doubleheader with Evansville. Southeast dropped the first game 1-0 after the Purple Aces scored in the first inning. The Redhawks held off a seventh inning rally by the Aces in game two to nab the 3-2 victory. 

31 Years of Excellence

Lana Richmond is in her 31st season as the head coach of the Redhawks. Coach Richmond's career record at Southeast is 869-662-2. She is currently on her way to capturing her 600th NCAA Division I victory (596-522-2). The five-time Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year currently ranks 40th in victories of all NCAA division head coaches. 

Up Next...

The Redhawks open their longest home stand of the season when Eastern Illinois comes to town on Apr. 13. The home swing will be eight games long with Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, and Southern Illinois scheduled to come to Cape.
