Scouting the Bruins

Belmont is 9-12 this season overall, 0-3 in OVC play. The Bruins were swept last weekend in the OVC opener at home by East Division leader Eastern Kentucky. Kat Hollingsworth leads the Bruins offense batting .380 with nine doubles, four home runs, and 22 RBI this season. Carolyn Snodgress (4-3, 2.24 ERA) and Taylor Moon (2-3, 3.36 ERA) are Belmont's go-to pitchers this season having each pitched 50.0 innings.

Scouting the Tigers

Much like the Bruins, the Tigers are 9-18 this season and also 0-3 against OVC opponents. TSU opened OVC play last weekend at East Division favorite Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks held the Tigers to just one run in the three-game sweep. TSU welcomes UT Martin Saturday before welcoming the Redhawks Sunday. Jennifer Givens is currently batting .388 this season for the Tigers. TSU has a total of three batters batting .300 or better.

Series Histories

Southeast is 7-7 against Belmont all-time. Last year, Southeast ended their season with a doubleheader sweep of the Bruins on May 2, the second game went 10 innings, the longest of the season. Southeast holds a huge 48-7 advantage over Tennessee State all-time. The Redhawks swept the Tigers in a weekend series at home Apr. 21-22 last year.

With the inclusion of Belmont and SIUE into the conference this season, the conference has 12 schools for the first time in conference history: six teams in the East division, six in the West. Division play will consist of three-game series while inter-division play will consist of two-game doubleheaders.

Montgomery Bank Athlete of the Week

Alexis Anderson was named the Montgomery Bank Female Athlete of the Week this week. Anderson, who hails from Buford, Ga., hit .636 (7-of-11) in four games, helping lead the Southeast softball team to a 3-1 record last week. She went 5-for-7 with two home runs and a double in the Redhawks doubleheader at Murray State on Mar. 16. Anderson also scored three times, had four RBI and stole two bases against the Racers. Additionally, she reached over the fence to rob Murray State of a home run in game one and boasted a 1.273 slugging percentage on the week.

Last Time Out

The Redhawks lost two mid-week games this week. The first was to ACC opponent Georgia Tech at home 9-4; the second was on the road to Western Kentucky Thursday 10-3. The Redhawks opened Ohio Valley Conference play in Murray, Ky. this past weekend. The Redhawks split Saturday's doubleheader, winning game one 9-3, and falling in game two 8-1 to the Racers. Sundays series finale was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Lana Richmond is in her 31st season as the head coach of the Redhawks. Coach Richmond's career record at Southeast is 866-657-2. She is currently on her way to capturing her 600th NCAA Division I victory (593-517-2).
