BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeast Missouri track and field programs returned to action on Saturday afternoon at former Ohio Valley Conference foe Samford at the Samford invitational.
Southeast Missouri sophomore Rebekah Lawson led the Redhawks as she broke her school record in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:36.30 on her way to finishing fourth. She leads the OVC by more that 25 seconds in the event.
Lawson also ran a career-best 10:08.48 in the 3,000m run, the mark by Lawson is also a Redhawk season-best this season.
Senior Unique Hooks ran a career-best and team season-best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.92 finishing in third place. Jerika Lewis also added a season-best time of 56.93 in the 400m dash, the third best time in the OVC this season.
Mary Dohogne continued her strong season with a career-best and team-best time of 5:11.84 in the mile run.
The distance medley relay team of Dohogne, Hooks, Allison Barker and Alyssa Rebecca ran a season-best time of 12:24.74.
On the men's side senior Alex Zisser had a career day with a pair of career-best. He finished fifth in the mile run at 4:13.38. Zisser also finished eighth in the 3,000m run at 8:32.79.
Craig Munie (15:11.75 ) and Tyler Mullen (15.18.63) had impressive showings in the 5,000m run finishing fourth and sixth respectively in the event.
In the men's field events Craig Robinson won the weight throw event with a distance of 62'-6.50”, falling just short of his OVC-Best toss from last weekend, Kevin Farley finished second in the event at 60”-0.50”.
Christian Locke finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 14'7.25”. Reining OVC Field Athlete of the Week Reggie Miller finished fifth in the high jump at 6'-8” he also sixth in the triple jump at 47'-11.25”.
On the women's side Macy Ritter finished second in the high jump at 5'-3.75”. Senior Jill Schnurbusch finished sixth in the pole vault at 12'-5”.
The Redhawks return home next Friday evening for the Redhawks Invitational at the Southeast Missouri Recreation Center.
