The Redhawks Invite is Southeast’s final tune-up for the OVC Indoor Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track and field programs will host their annual Redhawks Invite on Friday evening at the Southeast Missouri State University Recreation Center. Events are scheduled to open up at 4:00 p.m. with the field events as the Redhawks welcome Bethel University (Tenn.) and Memphis among others.
Southeast Missouri is coming off a strong showing at the Samford Invite in Birmingham, Ala. last Saturday.
Senior Craig Robinson was named Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. It is the second time this season that Robinson has garnered the award.
Robinson, a native of Hayti, Mo. won the weight throw over the weekend at the Samford Invite with a toss of 62'6.50”, falling just short of his OVC-best throw from the Redhawks' Dual meet with SIUE on February 1. Robinson won the event in a very competitive field that saw 36 athletes compete.
The Southeast distance runners continued their roll last weekend. Sophomore Rebekah Lawson led the Redhawks as she broke her school record in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:36.30 on her way to finishing fourth. She leads the OVC by more that 25 seconds in the event.
Lawson also ran a career-best 10:08.48 in the 3,000m run, the mark by Lawson is also a Redhawk season-best this season.
On the men's side senior Alex Zisser had a career day with a pair of career-best. He finished fifth in the mile run at 4:13.38. Zisser also finished eighth in the 3,000m run at 8:32.79.
Craig Munie (15:11.75 ) and Tyler Mullen (15.18.63) had impressive showings in the 5,000m run finishing fourth and sixth respectively in the event.
Senior Unique Hooks ran a career-best and team season-best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.92 finishing in third place to lead the sprinters. Jerika Lewis also added a season-best time of 56.93 in the 400m dash, the third best time in the OVC this season.
The Redhawks will head to Charleston, Ill. next weekend for the OVC Indoor Championships.
