JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeast Missouri (0-1) softball team opened the season Thursday afternoon against the Jackson State (1-0) Lady Tigers. The game was tied going in to the bottom of the seventh inning when Jackson State hit a walk-off double to win the game.

"It was a well played game on both sides but we came up short on a number of opportunities to score with a key hit," said head coach Lana Richmond. "Taylor Cowan had a solid outing in the circle going six complete innings. Our defense rose the occasion multiple times against the Lady Tigers."

The game remained scoreless through six and a half innings until Tahlisa Blosser hit an RBI double to bring Arial Siegel home from first to win the game for the Lady Tigers.

Southeast was out-hit 8-3.

Kaitlin Zink, who went 1-for-4, tied a career-high two stolen bases against the Lady Tigers. Simone Patterson and freshman Savannah Carpenter each went 1-for-3. Carpenter hit her first career double in the seventh inning.

Sebeana Romero went 2-for-2 Thursday evening for the Lady Tigers.

Freshman catcher Chelsea Smith caught two Lady Tiger base runners stealing: one at second and another at third.

Cowan (0-1) suffered the loss for Southeast after pitching a complete game. Cowan struck out four batters and walked three.

Breea Jamerson (1-0) recorded the win for Jackson State. Jamerson struck out three and walked three batters.

The Redhawks begin tournament play Friday morning at the Mardi Gras Classic hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
