Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Eastern Illinois, Friday

The Southeast Missouri women's team opens the season as the reigning OVC Champions.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2013-14 indoor season Friday at Eastern Illinois.
 
The Southeast Missouri women's team returns as the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Champions. Head coach Eric Crumpecker also received Coach of the Year accolades last season.
 
Courtney Gapelu and Kayla Gutierrez return for the throwers; each placed fourth and third, respectively, in the women's weight throw at last year's Championship.
 
Jessica Brown and Kim Moye return as Southeast's top jumpers this season.
 
For the distance runners, Rebekah Lawson is hot off a successful cross country season is looks to improve in the indoor season.
 
On the men's side, Kevin Farley returns as Southeast's phenom thrower; who also won the shot put event at last season's OVC Championships.
 
For the Redhawk jumpers, 2013 Male Field Athlete of the Year Reggie Miller is back for Southeast. Blake Carter, 2013 long jump champion, joins Miller on the jumps team.
 
The meet is slated to begin with field events at 3 p.m. from Charleston, Ill.
