CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri volleyball (14-15, 6-7 OVC) dropped a tight, five-set match to the Murray State Racers (14-13, 4-9 OVC) at home Friday evening (25-21, 14-25, 25-18, 22-25, 10-15).

"We had a lot of fight from our middle blockers and Colleen offensively," said Julie Yankus. "We just needed some more contributions from other hitters in order to push away from a great Murray State team tonight. It was tough to stop them and their quick attack. We tried hard to get them out of system but couldn't capitalize."

The Redhawks won the first set 25-21 but not without a fight from the Racers as the score was tied four times and the lead changed twice. Colleen Yarber totaled six kills in the first set while Emily Coon hit .833 (5-of-6) in the opening stanza.

Murray won the second set quite handedly 25-14. Alyssa Lelm hit .714 for the Racers with five kills in the set.

Coming out of the break, Southeast took the lead once again with a 25-18 set victory. The set remained close early on but Southeast was able to take a slight lead and build on it to take the third set.

The fourth set was the closest set of the match as both teams fought closely. Murray came out on top 25-22 to force a fifth set.

With Oct. 12's three-set sweep on their minds, Murray looked for revenge in the fifth set as they never trailed in the final stanza and took the match with a 15-10 set victory.

The middle blockers came through in a big way for the Redhawks as Coon tallied 19 kills, a season-high .607 hitting clip, and six blocks. Middle blocker Taylor Masterson added 12 kills and four blocks. Yarber finished the evening with 16 kills and 17 digs. Yarber only needs 22 more kills to reach 1,000 career kills. Andrea Baylin tallied seven kills and 16 digs.

Southeast Missouri will honor four seniors Saturday as they host Austin Peay at 5 p.m.
