Panthers Down Redhawks in Four Sets Saturday

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Southeast Missouri volleyball team (14-14, 6-6 OVC) fell to the Eastern Illinois (15-10, 9-3 OVC) Saturday in four sets (16-25, 18-25, 25-19, 24-26).
 
Tied at five in the first, EIU used a 6-1 run to pull ahead on Southeast, 11-6, and held the lead all the way to a 25-16 opening set win.
 
EIU came within striking distance of a sweep with a 25-18 set two win. Despite the score being tied thee times in the second set, EIU never trailed the Redhawks.
 
Southeast avoided the three-set sweep with a third set victory. Down 6-4, Southeast used a 5-1 run to take the lead 9-7. Southeast opened a comfortable 19-13 lead and used it to cruise to a 25-19 win.
 
Eastern Illinois sealed the deal in the fourth set. The set stayed tight as the score was tied 13 times. Tied at 24, EIU closed out the match with two straight kills to take the match in four sets.
 
Emily Coon led the Redhawks with 10 kills and an impressive .320 hitting clip with four blocks. Colleen Yarber tallied nine kills with 12 digs against the Panthers. Kelsey Keeve had six total blocks.
 
The Redhawks return home for a three-match home stand to round-out the home portion of the 2013 campaign against Murray, Nov. 8 and Austin Peay, Nov. 9.
