CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri will begin its first Ohio Valley Conference road swing of 2013 this weekend as they travel to Austin Peay Friday, Oct. 11 followed by a quick trip to Murray State Saturday, Oct. 12. The Redhawks and Lady Govs square-off at 7 p.m. while Saturday's game against the Racers will begin at 2 p.m. Both matches can be seen on the OVC Digital Network.

Let's Review
After two tough losses to SIUE and UT Martin last week, Southeast bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 sweep over Jacksonville State Saturday, who was undefeated in OVC play up to that point. Southeast looks to use the momentum of that win going into the weekend road series.

A Look Ahead
Southeast will return home Oct. 16 for a non-conference showdown with regional rival Saint Louis. The Redhawks and Billikens can be seen on the OVC Digital Network. The Redhawks will then travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on the Belmont Bruins, Oct. 18, followed by the Tennessee State Tigers, Oct. 19.

Scouting Trip
Austin Peay opened its home portion of its schedule with a pair of wins, defeating Murray State and Eastern Kentucky. The Lady Govs are 9-2 in home matches played during head coach Taylor Mott's tenure.  Junior Liz Landon recorded just one attack error in 41 attempts during the week. She recorded 26 kills and a .610 attack percentage to go with six blocks. Junior Cami Fields dished out 99 assists to help the Lady Govs to a .317 attack percentage. She also had three blocks and 18 digs during the week. Junior Jada Stotts recorded 38 kills and 38 digs in the two matches. She was one of four hitters to average 3.0 kills per set. Senior Calyn Hull and junior Sammie Ebright each had 24 kills during the week, Ebright posting a career-high 15 kills in the win at EKU. The Lady Govs fell at Missouri, 3-0 on Tuesday.

Murray State fell to Austin Peay and Morehead State last week. Sophomore Alyssa Lelm recorded 26 kills last week, including 17 versus Austin Peay while also hitting .342. She also added two blocks and three assists for the week. Senior Katlyn Hudson led the team in digs in both matches, recording 28 for the week. In the match with Morehead State, Hudson posted her 1,000 career dig. Sophomore Sam Bedard dished out 70 assists last week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Junior outside hitter Andrea Baylin has been named the adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week this week. Baylin, a native of Dublin, Ohio, led the Redhawks this week in digs with 37 (4.62 digs/set) while also contributing 5 blocks (2 solo, 3 assisted). She tied a season-high 18 digs against UT Martin then proceeded to set a new season-high 19 digs against Jacksonville Saturday. Baylin also tallied 12 kills and five set assists on the week.

Seeing (and Thinking) Pink
With October upon the Redhawks, Southeast is in the midst of its annual Dig For Life campaign. Dig For Life, started by Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator and former volleyball head coach Cindy Gannon, was started to help provide mammograms for women who could otherwise not afford them. Dig For Life, in conjunction with Saint Francis Medical Center's Pink Up Cape campaign, has grown exponentially in the last few years. The Redhawks will wear pink jerseys for all home matches during the month of October.

Playing a Wall
Southeast Missouri has consistently led the OVC in blocks this season. Southeast has tallied 161 blocks (69 solo, 184 assisted), 2.27 blocks/set. Taylor Masterson (0.99 blocks/set) and Emily Coon (0.93 blocks/set) rank 4th and 6th in blocking in the OVC.

Start it Up
As a team, the Redhawk's offense ranks in the middle of the conference in hitting (.175 hitting percentage) and ranks last in kills (11.21 kills/set); however, individually, Emily Coon ranks fourth in the OVC in hitting percentage (.310) and Colleen Yarber ranks third in the kills category (214; 3.34 kills/set).

4,000 Assist Club
Senior setter Julie Shives is now a member of the 4,000 assist club at Southeast Missouri. Shives ranks fifth on the career assists list with 4,114. In order to move up in the rankings, Shives needs to tally almost 900 more assists to reach Southeast Hall of Famer Tuba Meto's 5,003 assists mark, who ranks fourth all-time.
