On Tap
About Eastern Kentucky – The Colonels dropped a pair of one-goal OVC decisions on the road last week, falling to SIU Edwardsville 2-1 and Eastern Illinois 1-0. At 1-2 in conference play, EKU is in need of points position itself well for making next month's OVC Tournament. Cassie Smith and Kristan Paynter are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece, though Smith also has two assists for a team-high six points. Erika Wolfer has earned most of the minutes in goal and has two solo shutouts, a 2.66 goals against average and a .649 save percentage.

About Morehead State – The Eagles split their road trip in Illinois, topping SIU Edwardsville 1-0 after falling by the same score to Eastern Illinois two days earlier. After starting 0-7-1, MSU has won three of its past four, with all of those contests one-goal decisions. Jade Flory paces the Eagles' offensively with 16 points (second in the OVC) on six goals and four assists. Four players have started at least once in goal for MSU, with Elizabeth Floyd (0.77 GAA, .765 save%) getting the most time in net.

Looking Back
Lindenwood/Jacksonville State Recap – With three Southeast starters out of its lineup, the Redhawks' depth got a chance for extended minutes in a non-conference tilt with Lindenwood on Friday night. Storm French scored her first goal of the year on an assist from Breana Beine (her first point as a Redhawk) early on while Torey Byrd scored her first of the year to secure a 2-0 win. Erin Shulman was back in the lineup and made her presence felt against Jacksonville State on Sunday, outshooting the Gamecocks by herself 7-5 and netting a pair of goals in a 2-0 win. Southeast ended the weekend third in the OVC standings at 2-0-1 and is riding a season-best five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1).

News & Notes
Moving Up – Ashton Aubuchon made five saves in two contests in the Redhawks' second-straight unbeaten weekend. Those stops pushed her career total to 214, the third most in school history and 14 shy of assistant coach Lindsay Pickering's school record of 228. She is also in the Redhawks' top five in career solo shutouts (second; 18), wins (third; 24) and goalkeeper minutes played (third; 4,458). Aubuchon currently leads the OVC with 7.17 saves per match.

Full Circle – Junior midfielder Torey Byrd's comeback from a knee injury in the spring had several highlights this past weekend. Byrd came off the bench to score an insurance goal to secure the Redhawks' 2-0 win over Lindenwood on Oct. 4. Her perseverance was rewarded with her first start of the season against Jacksonville State on Sunday, where she played 80 minutes in helping Southeast post another 2-0 victory. Byrd led Southeast with six goals and earned OVC All-Tournament honors in 2012.

She's Back – Sophomore forward Erin Shulman had a tough time finding the net in the Redhawks' first five contests, but has regained her scoring touch in recent weeks, helping Southeast catch fire. Shulman notched her first point of the year by assisting on Natasha Minor's tying goal in the 85th minute and scored with 17 seconds left in overtime to secure a comeback win over Drake on Sept. 15. She found the back of the net again at Austin Peay on Sept. 29, netting the tying goal in a 1-1 draw with the Lady Govs. All that was just a precursor for a dominant performance against Jacksonville State on Oct. 6, where she outshot JSU 7-5 by herself and recorded her first multi-goal outing since Sept. 23, 2011 by netting both goals in a 2-0 win. Shulman now leads Southeast with nine points (4 G, 1 A).

Lengthening the Attack – Another forward who is showing signs of life is junior Breana Beine. The former Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year who transferred from Evansville was having a tough time with the rest of the offense early on, attempting six shots and going without a point in Southeast's first eight matches. She appeared close to breaking through in Southeast's most recent weekend, recording an assist on the game-winning goal against Lindenwood on Oct. 4 and firing eight shots in two matches, several of which were quality scoring opportunities. Beine scored 10 goals and recorded 23 points in two seasons at Evansville before coming to Southeast.
