SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri volleyball team (13-13) fell to in-state rival Missouri State (15-9) Tuesday evening in three sets (19-25, 12-25, 24-26).

"We did a great job passing tonight which helped us in the first and third sets," said Julie Yankus. "We ran a fairly effective offense during those sets but we couldn't stop a very strong Missouri State offense."

Missouri State took set one 25-19 but not without a fight from the Redhawks as the score was tied eight times in the opening stanza. The Bears opened up nice lead on a 9-1 run to go up 19-12. The Bears were able to cruise to the opening set win.

The Bears shut down the Redhawks in the second set, 25-12.

Looking a sweep in the eyes, Southeast put up a good fight in the third set to try to stay alive in the match but Missouri State got the best of the Redhawks, 26-24, to earn the three-set sweep. Down 23-19, Southeast used a 5-1 run to tie up the set at 24 apiece but the Bears tallied the final two points before the Redhawks could gain too much momentum.

Colleen Yarber led the Redhawks with 14 kills and a .250 hitting clip. Madalyn Werths recorded five kills with a season-high .300 hitting percentage. The OVC leaders in blocking were out-blocked 6-5 to the Bears.

Yankus added, "Colleen had a great night and I was very proud of her aggressive swings and smart shots."

The Redhawks hit the road Friday and Saturday for OVC West showdowns with SIUE and Eastern Illinois.
