CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – After going down 2-0 in the match, Southeast Missouri (13-12, 5-5 OVC) battled back against a very good Morehead State team (18-6, 9-0 OVC) to tie up the match and force a decisive fifth set. Morehead got the better of Southeast in the deciding set to take a very close match (19-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-15, 6-15).

The Eagles, who were undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play coming into the match, got the better of the Redhawks in the first set, 25-19. Southeast stayed close until Morehead used five straight points to pull ahead, 16-11. Morehead used six more points to get more out in front, 22-14. While the Redhawks made an attempt to take the set, the Eagles held off the Redhawks long enough to take the set.

Morehead jumped out in front 11-4 in the second set and cruised to a second set win, 25-17, and put themselves in striking distance of a sweep.

With their backs against the wall, the Redhawks came out of the break with a fire lit under them. Southeast started with five straight unanswered points to eventually lead them to a 25-22 set win. Southeast went up 11-3 but Morehead pulled within one point at 17-16 but Southeast kept the lead and took the third set to stay alive in the match.

Southeast shut down the Eagles in the fourth set. Down 8-3, Southeast used a most impressive 13-1 run to go up 16-9. The Redhawks cruised to a 25-15 set four victory to force a decisive fifth set.
Colleen Yarber tallied three service aces during the 13-1 run in the fourth set.

Down 4-3 in the final set, Morehead used a 12-2 run to take the match, 15-6.

This is only Southeast's second five-set loss as they are now 7-2 in five-set matches.

Andrea Baylin and Yarber each tallied 10 kills each for Southeast.
Berkley Idel dug 21 balls with Baylin digging 16 on the night.

Southeast returns to action Oct. 29 at Missouri State for an in-state battle with the Bears at 6:00 p.m.
