CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Redhawks kick off 2013 Homecoming with Eastern Kentucky Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m., followed by a rivalry match-up with the Morehead State Eagles on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Morehead is currently undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play this season. Thursday's match against Eastern Kentucky can be seen on KFVS12.com. The Redhawks will honor breast cancer survivors during Friday's match as they wrap up the 2013 Dig For Life campaign.
Let's ReviewSoutheast Missouri went 2-1 last week, earning wins over Saint Louis and Tennessee State and falling to Belmont.
Andrea Baylin led the team in kills for the week with 34. She posted a career-best 21 kills and a career-best .400 hitting percentage against Tennessee State. Baylin also posted 42 digs, including a career- high 22 versus the Bruins. Sophomore
Taylor Masterson recorded 21 blocks, including 12 versus Saint Louis.
A Look AheadAfter Homecoming weekend, Southeast will take on in-state rival Missouri State at 6 p.m. on Oct. 29 in Springfield. Southeast will then take the SIUE - Eastern Illinois road swing to kick off the month of November.
Scouting TripEastern Kentucky went 3-0 last week, defeating Wright State, Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. Senior Ashley Edmond recorded 42 kills over the three matches, posting 10-plus kills in each match. Against JSU, Edmond had 17 kills and 19 digs. Junior Dena Ott led all players with 31 digs versus the Gamecocks to finish the week with 62. Junior Abbey Cvelbar dished out 120 assists last week, including 36 in the win over JSU.
Morehead State fell to Xavier before defeating Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech last week. The Eagles have now won 30 straight OVC matches, which is the longest conference streak in Division I. Morehead State held its three opponents last week to .104 hitting efficiency. Four players averaged more than three digs per set. Junior Alex Fitzmorris led the team with 26 kills (2.89 per set). Senior Leslie Schellhaas averaged 4.67 digs per set, compiling a match-best 19 versus JSU. Head coach Jaime Gordon is now just two wins shy of 300 for his career.
Seeing (and Thinking) PinkWith October upon the Redhawks, Southeast is in the midst of its annual Dig For Life campaign. Dig For Life, started by Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator and former volleyball head coach
Cindy Gannon, was started to help provide mammograms for women who could otherwise not afford them. Dig For Life, in conjunction with Saint Francis Medical Center's Pink Up Cape campaign, has grown exponentially in the last few years. The Redhawks will wear pink jerseys for all home matches during the month of October.
Playing a WallSoutheast Missouri has consistently led the OVC in blocks this season. Southeast has tallied 227 blocks (98 solo, 258 assisted), 2.49 blocks/set.

Emily Coon (0.93 blocks/set) ranks 5th in blocking in the OVC.
1,000 Kill ClubWednesday against Saint Louis, senior middle blocker
Emily Coon recorded her 1,000th kill of her career. Coon currently sits outside the top-ten in career kills. In order to break the top-ten, she must record 230 more kills this season.
Records WatchBerkley Idel has broken the top ten list of career digs with 1,349 while
Colleen Yarber has broken the top-ten in career attack attempts with 3,168.
Not a Queen, but an AceFreshman defensive specialist
Jade Mortimer ranks among the most aggressive servers in the conference with 25 service aces. Her 0.32 aces/set ranks her fifth in the OVC. Southeast tied a season-high 10 aces in Wednesday's match against Saint Louis as both teams combined for 19 aces altogether.
There's No Place like HomeJulie Yankus, now in her third season at the helm of the Redhawks, has garnered an 18-6 record at the friendly confines of Houck Field House. In home openers, she is 3-0 and 16-5 in OVC matches at home.
4,000 Assist ClubSenior setter
Julie Shives is now a member of the 4,000 assist club at Southeast Missouri. Shives ranks fifth on the career assists list with 4,250. In order to move up in the rankings, Shives needs to tally almost 800 more assists to reach Southeast Hall of Famer Tuba Meto's 5,003 assists mark, who ranks fourth all-time.Â
