CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The 2013 regular season is winding down and the Southeast Missouri soccer team (6-5-3, 4-1-2 Ohio Valley) hopes to close its home schedule with a bang this weekend. The Redhawks host SIU Edwardsville (10-3-3, 4-2-1 OVC) on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Eastern Illinois (6-10, 6-1 OVC) on Sunday (1 p.m.). Southeast will be honoring seniors

About SIU Edwardsville – The Cougars are tied for fifth in the OVC standings with three regular season matches left, trying to qualify for their second-straight conference tournament. SIUE has won three straight contests, outscoring opponents 11-3 in that stretch to climb the standings. Kayla Delgado paces the Cougars with eight goals and 16 points, though Tory Pitts' nine points (3 G, 3 A) lead the team during OVC play. Jennifer Pelley leads the OVC with a 0.66 goals against average and her .831 save percentage is second among league keepers.
About Eastern Illinois – After an 0-9 start, the Panthers have caught fire during OVC play, winning six of seven to enter the weekend tied for first place in the league standings. Meagan Radloff leads EIU with 13 points (6 G, 1 A) while its defense has allowed one goal or less in all but two conference matches. Cortney Jerzey is the team's top keeper, posting a 1.47 goals against average and an .818 save percentage.
Looking Back
Belmont/Tennessee Tech Recap – Jennifer Antonacci scored 28 seconds into overtime to give Southeast a critical 2-1 victory over Belmont last Friday.
Ashton Aubuchon stopped four of five shots and
Breana Beine's first goal of the season opened the scoring for Southeast. Belmont tied it up early in the second half before Antonacci's heroics. Southeast kept its winning ways up at home on Sunday by blanking Tennessee Tech 1-0 on
Natasha Minor's fourth goal of the season. Aubuchon made two saves to earn her 20th-career solo shutout and vault the Redhawks up to fourth place in the OVC standings.
News & Notes
Checking the Standings – With three OVC matches left, Southeast is looking good with a 4-1-2 league record. The Redhawks' 14 points (fourth place) are one ahead of SIUE and Austin Peay and four ahead of seventh-place Eastern Kentucky, The top six teams qualify for next month's OVC Tournament. In the first year of a 10-match schedule, Southeast earned the fourth seed by amassing 17 points in 2012. Southeast is one point behind third-place Morehead State and four behind OVC co-leaders Eastern Illinois and UT Martin, who play each other on Friday night.
Moving Up – Ashton Aubuchon made six saves in two contests last weekend. Those stops pushed her career total to 227, second most in school history. Her next save will tie assistant coach Lindsay Pickering's school record of 228. She is also in the Redhawks' top five in career solo shutouts (second; 20), wins (third; 26) and goalkeeper minutes played (second; 4,828).
No "Minor" Achivement – Freshman
Natasha Minor has shown a maturity beyond her years in her first season at Southeast. The De Pere, Wis., native leads the Redhawks with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists) and is currently seventh in the OVC with 0.85 points per match. She is enters this weekend on a three-match point streak (2 G, 1 A) and has nine points in her past eight contests.
Scoring is a "Bre"ze – One player who appears to be finding her offensive stride is junior forward
Breana Beine. After posting only one assist in the season's first 12 contests, Beine cracked the scoresheet in both of Southeast's victories last weekend. The transfer from Evansville scored her first goal as a Redhawk in last Friday's overtime win over Belmont. She came through again in Sunday's win over Tennessee Tech, assisting on the lone goal of a 1-0 win over the Golden Eagles.
Defensive Stalwart – Freshman defender
Christina Rohde has been just the anchor the Southeast defense needs this year. After graduating two senior backs (including 2012 OVC Defensive Player of the Year
Hayley Abbott) last fall, Rohde has picked up the slack on the back line. The St. Louis, Mo., native has played 1,319 of a possible 1,330 minutes this season and helped Southeast post five shutouts and hold opponents under two goals nine times. She is also chipping in offensively, tying for the team lead with three assists. Twice this season, Rohde has been recognized with the OVC Defensive Player of the Week award.
