NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri volleyball (11-11, 3-4 OVC) challenged Ohio Valley Conference East Division favorite Belmont (11-12, 4-3) Friday evening. Belmont topped the Redhawks in four sets, 3-1 (20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 14-25).

"We struggled offensively tonight and couldn't slow down a hot Belmont offense," said Julie Yankus. "Belmont was very scrappy on defense which made our hitters struggle to find a way to score."

The Bruins took set one and set two by a 25-20 margin. Hot off an impressive match against Saint Louis, Kelsey Keeve led the Redhawks with a .385 hitting clip, five kills, three digs, and a block at the break. Taylor Masterson added three blocks of her own in the first two sets.

With the threat of a sweep hanging over their heads, Southeast put it in gear in the third set, defeating the Bruins 25-23 to stay alive in the match. Masterson killed the ball four times in the set in five attempts, adding two more blocks.

Belmont laid down the law in the fourth set and snuffed any chance of Southeast gaining momentum, winning 25-14, and taking the match.

Masterson finished the evening with nine kills, a .226 hitting clip, and five blocks. Colleen Yarber and Keeve tallied eight kills apiece, each with a block. Andrea Baylin led in digging with a career-high 22 digs.

Jen Myer led the Bruins with 17 kills, a .438 hitting percentage, and 40 digs.

Southeast will take on Tennessee State Saturday at 2 p.m. from Nashville.
