Complete Match Notes

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri volleyball takes a break from Ohio Valley Conference play Wednesday to take on regional rival Saint Louis at the friendly confines of Houck Field House at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening's match can be seen on the OVC Digital Network.

Let's Review
After two tough losses to SIUE and UT Martin two weeks ago, Southeast bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 sweep over Jacksonville State that Saturday, who was undefeated in OVC play up to that point. On their first OVC road swing of the season, Southeast fell to a very tough Austin Peay team in four sets but bounced back with a big sweep over Murray State Saturday.

A Look Ahead
The Redhawks will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for OVC East showdowns with Belmont on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a match-up with Tennessee State Saturday at 2 p.m. The Redhawks open Homecoming weekend with Eastern Kentucky Thursday, Oct. 24, followed by a rivalry match-up with the Morehead State Eagles on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Scouting Trip
The Saint Louis Billikens currently sit 8-11 this season but in the Atlantic 10 Conference, they are 4-2. Most recently, they fell to Duquesne in four sets at home but turned it around and defeated Fordham by the same margin. Mallory Dillon is the top scorer for the Billikens with 280 kills and a 4.06 kills/set ratio this season. Megan Gilbert is the top hitter for the Billikens with a .356 hitting clip and also leads the team in blocks with 67.

Seeing (and Thinking) Pink
With October upon the Redhawks, Southeast is in the midst of its annual Dig For Life campaign. Dig For Life, started by Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator and former volleyball head coach Cindy Gannon, was started to help provide mammograms for women who could otherwise not afford them. Dig For Life, in conjunction with Saint Francis Medical Center's Pink Up Cape campaign, has grown exponentially in the last few years. The Redhawks will wear pink jerseys for all home matches during the month of October.

Playing a Wall
Southeast Missouri has consistently led the OVC in blocks this season. Southeast has tallied 191 blocks (85 solo, 212 assisted), 2.45 blocks/set. Taylor Masterson (1.08 blocks/set) leads the OVC in blocks with Emily Coon (0.97 blocks/set) ranks 4th  in blocking in the OVC. In Saturday's match against Murray, Southeast posted a season high 17 team blocks. The Redhawks are also holding opponents to a .186 hitting percentage.

Start it Up
As a team, the Redhawk's offense ranks in the bottom half of the conference in hitting (.174 hitting percentage) and ranks last in kills (11.17 kills/set); however, individually, Emily Coon ranks fifth in the OVC in hitting percentage (.289) and Colleen Yarber ranks sixth in the kills category (232; 3.27 kills/set).

Not a Queen, but an Ace
Freshman defensive specialist Jade Mortimer ranks among the most aggressive servers in the conference with 22 service aces. Her 0.31 aces/set ranks her sixth in the OVC.

There's No Place like Home
Julie Yankus, now in her third season at the helm of the Redhawks, has garnered a 17-6 record at the friendly confines of Houck Field House. In home openers, she is 3-0 and 16-5 in OVC matches at home.
