CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri volleyball team makes the short trip to St. Louis this weekend to take part in the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic at Saint Louis University. The Redhawks open up play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Big East foe South Florida. Southeast then plays the host Billikens on Saturday at noon followed by fellow regional rival Evansville at 4:30 p.m. The Redhawks are familiar with each opponent playing all three teams once within the last three seasons.

Road Warriors
Southeast opens up the season with 16 contests away from the friendly confines of Houck Field House. The Redhawks play 32-matches in all in 2012 with nine matches being played in the friendly confines of Houck Field House.
Adidas OVC Setter of the Week
Southeast Missouri junior setter
Julie Shives was named Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Setter of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office. It is the first time a Redhawk has received a weekly honor since Shives was named Setter of the Week on August 30, 2010. The Grove City, Ohio native recorded 103 assists over the weekend averaging 11.44 per frame. Shives was also a threat to attack for Southeast with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .484 at the Panther Invitational. Shives leads the OVC in assists averaging 10.38 per set. She also ranks eighth in the league in hitting percentage at .315.
Another Honor for Coon
Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection
Emily Coon was named to the Panther Challenge All-Tournament team last weekend at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. She recorded 13 blocks over the weekend with six solo and seven assisted.
Ohio Valley Conference Stats
Southeast leads the Ohio Valley Conference in digs after two weeks averaging 18.21 per set. The Redhawks also lead the league in assists at 12.46 per set. Southeast ranks second in the OVC in blocks (2.04).
Emily Coon ranks third in the conference in blocks at 1.04 per frame.
Colleen Yarber ranks fourth in the league in kills averaging 3.12 per set. Defensively,
Berkley Idel ranks fifth in the OVC in digs at 4.79 per set.
Preseason Polls
The Southeast Missouri volleyball team was picked third in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The Redhawks received 192 points and two first place votes in this season's poll. Morehead State the defending OVC Champions were picked to win the league with 242 points and 22 first place votes. Newcomer Belmont was picked second with 198 points after winning the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2011.
