CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Ohio Valley Conference play resumes at Houck Stadium this weekend with the Southeast Missouri soccer team hosting OVC foes Murray State and Austin Peay.
The Redhawks (1-6-3, 0-0-1 OVC) are wrapping up a three-match home stand against the Racers (3-5-0, 1-0-0 OVC) and Lady Govs (4-6-0, 0-1-0 OVC) on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Friday's contest against Murray State kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday's tilt against Austin Peay starts at 1 p.m. KFVS12.com will provide a free webcast of Sunday's clash with the Lady Govs.
Quick Kicks
•Southeast defeated both Austin Peay and Murray State on the road last season by a combined score of 6-1.
•The Racers have scored one goal or less in each of their last four matches against the Redhawks (2-2).
•The Redhawks are 5-1-1 in their last seven meetings against the Lady Govs.
•Southeast has not lost a regular season home conference match since dropping a 3-0 decision to Morehead State on Oct. 10, 2010. Since then, the Redhawks are 4-0-2 in their last six home conference matches.
News and Notes:
Last Time Out – Southeast opened up Ohio Valley Conference play against defending OVC Tournament champion UT Martin on Tuesday night.
Courtney Luehmann scored the Redhawks' first goal in six matches in the second minute of play, converting on a corner kick set piece. Southeast had opportunities to extend the lead on a penalty kick and a quality header off a corner, but was unable to find the back of the net a second time in a match that ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw between the OVC's top two preseason favorites.
Scouting Murray State – The Racers opened OVC play with a 1-0 win over Austin Peay last Sunday. After opening the year with five-straight losses, MSU has reeled off three-consecutive victories, outscoring opponents 7-0 in the process. Veronika Pribyslavska has tallied five of the Racers' 11 goals and leads the team with 10 points. Four of her goals have come during MSU's current winning streak. Latesha Stevenson has started in goal during each of Murray's victories, stopping all 13 shots during that span. She boasts a team-best 0.30 goals against average and has only allowed one goal on 15 shots.
Scouting Austin Peay – The Lady Govs dropped their OVC opener to Murray State, despite outshooting the Racers by a 12-3 count. APSU has dropped three of its past four contests to fall to 4-6 overall, though two of those losses were by 1-0 margins. Tatiana Ariza has a team-high 10 points and is tied with three other Lady Govs players with three goals this season. Hayley Shoaff has received the bulk of the minutes in net and boasts a 1.53 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
Youth Soccer Promotions – September is National Youth Soccer Month and Southeast is running promotions during the month. Youth soccer players who show up at the gate wearing their jerseys get free admission to all of the Redhawks home contests this month. Southeast still has Murray State (Sept. 28; Rec Team Night) and Austin Peay (Sept. 30; Free youth clinic after the match) on the slate this month.
