Redhawks Sweep Belmont in Doubleheader

Southeast ends season at 25-30 overall

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.Renee Kertz tied the school's all-time career RBI record in Southeast Missouri's doubleheader sweep of Belmont (11-34) Wednesday. The Redhawks (25-30) won by scores of 5-3 and 14-13.

Kertz finished her career with 132 runs batted in, tying Michelle Summers (2005-08) for the all-time mark.

Southeast Missouri 5, Belmont 3

Southeast Missouri hit three home runs to propel its 5-3 victory in game one.

Southeast, which trailed, 3-1, erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Kaitlin Wallace and Lindsey Patterson hit back-to-back home runs with two outs. Wallace delivered a two-run homer to left and Patterson blasted a solo shot over the center field wall to give the Redhawks a 4-3 lead.

Renee Kertz then homered to left field to polish off the win with one away in the fifth.
Alora Marble (14-15) went the distance, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out four and walking three.

Mia Vierra (8-15) suffered the loss. Vierra scattered eight hits and gave up five runs in six innings. She also struck out four.

Southeast outhit the Belmont, 8-3, with Kertz and Xia Wilson contributing two hits apiece. Kertz went 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI, while Wilson went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Vierra, Ashley Byers and Kim Johnson combined for the Bruins quiet three hits.

Belmont 10, Southeast Missouri 7

Shelby Stein's RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Southeast Missouri 14-13 win in the nightcap.

Both teams combined for 27 runs, 26 hits and 10 errors in the final game of the doubleheader.

Lindsey Patterson was placed on second due to the international tiebreaker rule and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Simone Patterson. Stein followed with her walk-off single to left field to cap the 14-13 victory.

Southeast was down, 10-7, through six-and-a-half innings, but scored three to tie the game in the seventh.
Courtney Elrod then hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning before Stein sent everyone home
in the 10th.

Alora Marble, one of four pitchers who saw action, picked up the win in relief. Marble allowed two runs on one hit and struck out two in two innings to finish at 15-15 on the year.

Katie Clancy (0-1) was credited with the loss after giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in 7.2 relief innings.

Taylor Cowan went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and seven RBI to lead the Redhawks.

Stein followed with three hits, while Kaitlin Wallace added three RBI and Stein chipped in three his and two RBI.

Ashley Byers led the Bruins with three hits.

Southeast ends its season at 25-30 overall.
