CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Simone Patterson went 4-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and two RBI, and
Taylor Cowan added five hits and three RBI to lead Southeast Missouri (16-24) to a, 8-2, 10-3, doubleheader sweep of Middle Tennessee (12-22) Wednesday afternoon at the Southeast Softball Complex.
Southeast scored five or more runs in three innings en route to its third doubleheader sweep of the season.
Southeast Missouri 8, Middle Tennessee 2
Southeast scored seven runs in the fifth inning to grab an 8-2 win over Middle Tennessee in game one.
The Redhawks trailed, 2-1, through four-and-a-half innings before erupting for seven runs on six hits.
Shelby Stein led off with a single,
Evan Sallis got on with an infield hit and
Cheyenne Gipson reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with no outs.
Lindsey Patterson,
Taylor Cowan and
Renee Kertz followed with RBI-singles.
Shortly after the Blue Raiders changed pitchers,
Xia Wilson walked and L.Patterson scored. Kaitlin Wallace then filed out to left, allowing pinch-runner
Renee Terry to touch home.
Simone Patterson's pinch-hit, two-RBI triple capped the rally, giving Southeast an 8-2 advantage.
Middle Tennessee had something going in the sixth inning when it pushed across two runs. However, a substitution infraction resulted in both of those tallies being taken off the scoreboard and a runner called out. Southeast regrouped to get the final two outs of the inning, maintaining its six-run lead.
Alora Marble (9-11) struck out seven, walked one, gave up two runs and allowed six hits in her 15
th complete game of the season.
Caty Jutson (5-11) suffered the loss, scattering nine hits and allowing seven runs in four innings.
Southeast outhit Middle Tennessee, 10-6, with Sallis and Cowan paving the way with two hits each. Seven other Redhawks added a hit.
Laura Dukes went 3-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and two RBI to lead the Blue Raiders.
Southeast Missouri 10, Middle Tennessee 3
Southeast Missouri pounded out 13 hits, with
Simone Patterson and
Taylor Cowan finishing with a game-high three apiece to key the Redhawks 10-3 victory in the nightcap.
S. Patterson went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Cowan went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Evan Sallis and Kaitlin Wallace followed with two hits. Wallace and
Jamie Woodworth each added three RBI, as well.
Southeast scored five runs in both the second and sixth innings and never looked back.
Woodworth delivered a two-out, two-RBI double. After
Leah Becker walked, Sallis singled up the middle to score Woodworth. Wallace followed with a two-RBI double to center, giving the Redhawks a 5-1 cushion.
Middle Tennessee pulled to within two after scoring a pair of runs in the third, but Southeast put the Blue Raiders away for good in the sixth.
S. Patterson reached on a leadoff triple and scored when Woodworth hit into a fielder's choice. Sallis, Wallace,
Renee Kertz and Cowan each had RBI hits to extend Southeast's lead to 10-3.
Southeast outhit Middle Tennessee, 13-6.
Shea Cothren (4-9) picked up the win in relief. Cothren allowed three hits in four scoreless innings.
Shelby Stinnett (5-5) took the loss. Stinnett gave up 10 runs on 12 hits in 5.2 innings. She also struck out three and walked two.
Southeast returns to Ohio Valley Conference action at Austin Peay. The Redhawks and Governors open a three-game series with a 1 p.m., CT, doubleheader Saturday.
