KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (4-11) fell victim to a pair of late game rallies in two losses during the final day of the Missouri Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament Sunday. The Redhawks fell to tournament-host Missouri-Kansas City (9-4), 5-2, in eight innings and Missouri State (8-3), 5-4.

UMKC broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the eighth inning, while Missouri State overcame a two-run deficit by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to eke out a one-run win.

“The team played hard and the effort was there," said Southeast head coach Lana Richmond. "We have endured just about every scenario there is over the last 15 games. We have to set our focus on conference play now. We are better than our 4-11 record indicates.”

Southeast has lost nine-straight games, marking its longest losing streak since the Redhawks dropped 11 in a row from Mar. 28-Apr. 10, 2009.

UMKC 5, Southeast Missouri 2 (8 innings)
The University of Missouri-Kansas City scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a 5-2 win over Southeast Missouri in Sunday's first game.

Both teams were tied, 2-2, heading into extra innings when the international tiebreaker rule went into effect.

Kelly Fischer was placed on second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Megan Ussary. Fischer, who went to third on the play, scored the go-ahead run on Emily Ott's ensuing single to left. The Kangaroos then had the bases loaded with two outs when Caitlin Christopher drove in a pair of runs on a base hit to right, capping the 5-2 win.

Southeast went down in order during its final at-bat in the eighth.

The Redhawks took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Leah Becker singled down the left field line to score Xia Wilson, giving Southeast its first lead since Feb. 24.

UMKC answered with a solo home run by Marlee Maples to tie the game at 1-1 in the third.

Maples delivered again, this time with a two-out triple in the fourth, pushing the Kangaroos lead to 2-1.

Southeast gave the game its second tie when pinch-runner Renee Terry scored an unearned run on a two-out error to make it 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth.

Taylor Cowan went 2-for-4 to lead Southeast. Evan Sallis, Shelby Stein, Kaitlin Wallace and Becker followed with one hit each. The Redhawks lost for the second time in three games by way of the international tiebreaker.

Alora Marble (2-5) gave up nine hits and five runs in eight innings. Marble also struck out one and walked two.
Maples went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, triple, two RBI, one run scored and a walk to lead UMKC.

Cinda Ramos (7-1) allowed two runs on six hits. Ramos issued two walks and recorded one strikeout, as well.

Missouri State 5, Southeast Missouri 4
Missouri State overcame a two-run deficit by plating three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to eke out a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

The Bears trailed, 4-2, before igniting their comeback.

Ashley Brentz sparked the rally with a one-out RBI-single up the middle. After Southeast made a pitching change, Kristin Cutter knocked in Raeven Replogie on a single to left center. Cutter later scored the winning run when Stevie Pierce grounded out to third.

Southeast took a 3-0 lead early after scoring twice in the first and once in the second.

Sallis singled up the middle and stole second to get into scoring position. Cheyenne Gipson reached on an error and stole second giving the Redhawks runners at second and third with one out. Both Sallis and Gipson then scored on an error to give Southeast a 2-0 cushion.

The Redhawks added their third unearned run courtesy of another Missouri State error in the second. Wallace touched home when Bears right fielder Kerri Cunningham mis-played the ball.

The Bears pulled to within a run during their at-bat in the second when Lauren Eisenreich smacked a two-RBI single with two outs, making it a 3-2 game.

Southeast added one more run in the fourth when Wallace touched home on Renee Kertz's sacrifice fly.

The Redhawks outhit the Bears, 9-8, with Sallis and Wallace both finishing with two hits to lead the way.

Shea Cothren (1-4) took the loss. Cothren gave up five runs on seven hits, while walking three and striking out two in 6.1 innings.

Natalie Rose (5-0) remained unbeaten on the year. Rose scattered eight hits and gave up four runs. She also struck out four in four innings of relief.

In addition, Missouri State committed four errors.
