JACKSON, Miss. - Southeast Missouri (0-1) dropped its season-opener to Jackson State (1-0), 11-1, in five innings Thursday afternoon at the JSU Softball Complex. Cheyenne Gipson had two hits and Taylor Cowan scored the Redhawks only run.

In the top of the first inning, Gipson had the game's first hit and stole second to advance into scoring position, but was left on base.

The Redhawks answered in the top of the fourth when Taylor Cowen hit a home run to cut the lead to 4-1.

The Lady Tigers added to their lead with seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Blosser hit a two-run homer to key the big inning.

Gipson went 2-for-3 to lead the Redhawks, who were outhit, 10-4. Cowan followed with a hit, run scored and RBI.

Four different players had two hits to pave the way for JSU.

Breea Jamerson earned her first win of the season. Jamerson went the distance, allowing just four hits and one run. She also walked one and struck out three.
