Redhawks Drop Tournament Finale to Memphis, 1-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southeast Missouri softball team dropped the final game of the Blues City Classic to tournament host Memphis (4-12) on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers shut out the Redhawks, 1-0. Southeast falls to 4-7 on the season after going 0-5 in the tournament. 

Memphis recorded the only run of the game on the second of two errors committed by the Redhawks in the top of the first inning. 

Morgan Mosby hit a lead-off single to left field to get on base for the Tigers. Laura Curtis reached on an error and advanced Mosby to third base. Mosby then scored on an attempted pick-off at second. 

Neither team scored a run after that. 

Junior Xia Wilson led the Redhawks offensively going 2-for-3 against the Tigers. Fellow Junior Kaitlin Wallace was the only other Redhawk to have a hit on the day. 

Libby Goranson and Kassy Dunn each went 2-for-3 for the Tigers. 

Alora Marble fell to 2-3 after recording the loss. Marble pitched the complete game allowing one unearned run on five hits. She walked no batters and had no strikeouts. 

Ellen Roberts picked up her second win of the season to improve to 2-4 after shutting out the Redhawks. Roberts gave up only three hits and struck out seven batters. 

Evan Sallis was named to the Blues City Classic All-Tournament team after batting .313 with five hits and two runs scored and five total bases on the weekend. 

The Redhawks return to action on Saturday, March 3, against Saint Louis in the UMKC Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
