Volleyball Drops Five Set Marathon to Austin Peay

The Redhawks head to UT Martin on Tuesday

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –
The Southeast Missouri volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-27, 7-15)) match on Saturday evening at Austin Peay. The Redhawks drop to 18-12 overall and 10-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Lady Govs improve to 16-14 and 9-5 in the conference.
 
The Lady Govs are now a game back of the Redhawks in the OVC West Division standings.
 
The Redhawks took the opening frame 25-19 over the Lady Govs. Colleen Yarber was lights out in the opening frame with four kills hitting an impressive .800 in the set.
 
The Redhawks raced out to an early 8-2 lead in the second set on their way to a 25-20 win in the frame. Southeast hit an impressive .394 in the second frame with 14 kills and only one error.
 
Austin Peay responded after the break with a 10-4 run to open up the third set. Southeast battled back in the stanza and cut the Lady Govs' lead to as little as one point at 21-20 and 24-24, but the Redhawks could not tie the contest as APSU took the set 25-23.
 
Austin Peay battled to take the final two sets of the contest by scores of 27-25 and 15-7. The Lady Govs recorded 28 kills in the final two sets on their way to the win as they held the Redhawks to only 15 kills.
 
Emily Coon led all players with a career-high 21 kills in the victory. She hit .378 on the night. She recorded 25 points in the match.
 
Julie Shives added 45 set assists and 19 digs on the night for Southeast.
 
The Redhawks head to UT Martin on Tuesday for a mid-week OVC West Division showdown.
