CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. ­– The Southeast Missouri volleyball team opens up the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., CT. against Jacksonville State in Morehead, Ky. Southeast will be the second seed in the tournament with the Gamecocks being the seventh seed.

News and Notes:
Redhawks In The Tournament
The Redhawks are 26-14 all-time in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, which is the best record by any team in the OVC. The Redhawks have won five OVC championships, trailing only Eastern Kentucky who has won nine OVC titles. The Redhawks own a 17-10 record against the teams participating in this years OVC Tournament.

Series History
The Redhawks face Jacksonville State in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The two teams have met only once in the OVC Tournament as Southeast fell to the Gamecocks 3-0 in 2006.The Redhawks took the only meeting between the schools on Sept. 29 in Jacksonville 3-0.

All-OVC Selections
The Ohio Valley Conference released their 2012 All-OVC selections Wednesday morning. Juniors Emily Coon and Colleen Yarber were named All-OVC as redshirt freshman Taylor Masterson was named to the All-Newcomer team. It is the first time since 2002 that Southeast has had two players named to the All-OVC squad (Emily Johnson and Emily Scannell). Coon, a native of Imperial, Mo. is Southeast's first back-to-back All-OVC selection since Jessica Koeper (2005-06).

Moving On Up
Junior setter Julie Shives moved to sixth all-time in assists at Southeast Missouri with 3,390. She passed Amy Henken on against Belmont, where she had a career-high 53 assists. She recorded 942 assists in her first season and 1,180 in 2011. She is 83 assists away from being fifth all-time in assists (Jami Baumstar- 3,473, 2003-06).

Hitting Highs
The Redhawks recorded a season-high hitting percentage of .494 in the first set on Saturday agaist TTU. Southeast added 20 kills in that opening frame. The Redhawks would also hit their second highest percentage in a set in the third frame when they hit .393.
