CHARLESTON, Ill. –
Taylor Byrd and Storm French dug the Southeast Missouri soccer team out of a 2-0 deficit, but Ashley Streid's goal in the 108th minute sent the Redhawks (2-9-3, 1-3-1 Ohio Valley) to a 3-2 double overtime loss at Eastern Illinois on Sunday.

That loss is Southeast's third straight in OVC play, all of which have come by one goal. It is the first time since Sept. 10, 2010 that the Redhawks lost a match when scoring two or more goals.

The Panthers (4-10, 2-3 OVC) got on the board at the 2:01 mark when Kristin Germann converted a penalty kick for her fifth goal of the season. EIU added another tally in the 28th minute when Brooke Sill headed in a Streid cross from five yards out to put the Panthers up two goals. EIU took the two-goal cushion into halftime after a first half that saw it outshoot Southeast, 10-5.

Southeast came out strong in the second half and cut the deficit in half in the 65th minute when Byrd scored from in close to make it a 2-1 contest. That tally is the first of Byrd's career.

Despite having a stranglehold on possession time and producing several chances, the Panthers looked like they would hold off the Redhawks' charge. That all changed with 2:55 remaining when Ashley Geist crossed a ball into the 18-yard box that French headed into the net for her first career goal to tie the contest up at two apiece. That tally sent the contest to extra time. The Redhawks outshot the Panthers, 13-4, in the final regulation period.

EIU took the only shot and attempted the lone corner of a scoreless first overtime. The Redhawks took one shot early in the second overtime that went wide. With the match winding down, Germann found Streid on a through ball and Streid scored from in close to finish the contest.

Southeast outshot EIU, 20-17, on the afternoon. The Panthers won the battle of corner kicks, 5-3.

Ashton Aubuchon got the start in goal for the Redhawks and stopped three shots. Emily Hinton started for EIU and made five saves.

The Redhawks return to Houck Stadium for their final two home dates of the season next weekend. Southeast's next contest is against Eastern Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night. That match is senior night.
