CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri soccer team heads on the road looking to extend its 2012 season this weekend.
The Redhawks (4-9-4, 3-3-2 Ohio Valley) head to Tennessee Tech (5-10-1, 3-5 OVC) and Jacksonville State (10-6-2, 3-4-1 OVC) hoping to secure a spot in next week's OVC Tournament. Friday's match against the Golden Eagles kicks off at 3 p.m. while Sunday's regular season finale against the Gamecocks starts at 1 p.m.

News and Notes:
Last Week – Southeast extended its unbeaten streak to a season-high three matches after playing Belmont to a scoreless tie last Friday night. The statistical summary was essentially even, with the Redhawks outshooting the Bruins by a 16-15 count. It marked the first time this season the Redhawks have not lost a contest away from Houck Stadium.
Renee Kertz made seven saves while posting her fourth shutout and lowering her goals against average to 0.83. With two matches left, the Redhawks and Bruins are tied for fifth in the OVC standings, holding the last two spots in next week's OVC Tournament entering the final weekend.
About Tennessee Tech – The Golden Eagles are in need of a big weekend to qualify for the OVC Tournament. TTU snapped a three-match losing streak with a come from behind 2-1 win over Murray State last Sunday to improve to 3-5 in the OVC, two points out of the final tournament slot. TTU is tied for sixth in goals per match (1.00) and ranks eighth in goals against average (1.53). Ellie Iaciofano leads the Golden Eagles with eight goals and 20 points, which are tied for second most in the conference. Jordan Brown has logged every second in goal, posting a 1.53 goals against average, an .820 save percentage and three shutouts. She leads the conference with 7.12 saves per game.
About Jacksonville State – The Gamecocks have struggled to pick up points over the past few weeks. After starting 3-0 in OVC play, JSU is 0-4-1 in its past five matches and has fallen out of the top six in the conference standings. All four of those losses have been by one goal with two of them coming in overtime. Overall, the Gamecocks are third in both goals per game (1.56) and goals against average (1.02), but those ranks drop to fifth (1.25) and eighth (1.42), respectively, in OVC play). Courtney Hurt and Kelsey Bright have each scored seven goals and have 19 and 17 points, respectively. Katelyn Geddings has a 1.02 goals against average, an .870 save percentage and five shutouts.
Abbott Plays a Lot – Senior defender
Hayley Abbott has been a rock of durability in her time with the Redhawks. Abbott has started all 72 matches Southeast has played since she arrived on campus, a new school record. She has also played a school-record 6,429 minutes on the pitch.
Kertz in a Zone – The Redhawks have gotten stellar play out of senior goalkeeper
Renee Kertz this season, who is playing soccer for the first time since high school after finishing up her softball career at Southeast last spring. Kertz has worked her way into the heavier end of a time share with
Ashton Aubuchon, who was a first-team All-OVC pick in 2011. She has started 11 of Southeast's 17 contests and boasts a 0.83 goals against average, an .872 save percentage and four shutouts. Her save percentage leads all OVC keepers while her goals against average is second. Her four shutouts in 11 starts is the second-best average in the league. Kertz has been even better in OVC play, boasting a 0.62 goals against average and a.913 save percentage. She has allowed one goal or less in 11 of 12 appearances, including 10 of her 11 starts.
