CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri volleyball heads to Kansas City to take on in-state rival UMKC on Tuesday evening. The Redhawks look to bounce back after losing their first OVC contests of the season last weekend at Morehead State and EKU. The Redhawks face a tough opponent in UMKC, who enters the match 14-10 overall. The Summit league member is 7-5 in the league and is currently sitting in third place.

Series History
Southeast Missouri is 7-0 all-time against UMKC. It is the first meeting between the two schools since 2000 as the Redhawks defeated the Roos 3-1 in Kansas City. The first meeting between the two school took place in 1990 as the Redhawks downed UMKC 3-0.
Impressive Stretch
Southeast has won 10 of 13 games dating back to September 15 against Kent State. During that stretch the Redhawks recorded a six game winning streak that was snapped last against Arkansas State. The Redhawks went 5-1 at home during that stretch.

Julie Shives moved to sixth all-time in assists at Southeast Missouri with 4,014. She passed Amy Henken on against Belmont, where she had a career-high 53 assists. She recorded 942 assists in her first season and 1,180 in 2011.

Julie Shives were named Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference by OVC coaches and sports information directors. Coon was named to Preseason All-OVC in 2011 and earned postseason All--OVC honors as well.
Preseason Polls
The Southeast Missouri volleyball team was picked third in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The Redhawks received 192 points and two first place votes in this season's poll. Morehead State the defending OVC Champions were picked to win the league with 242 points and 22 first place votes. Newcomer Belmont was picked second with 198 points after winning the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2011.
