News and Notes:

Last Week – Southeast picked up two critical victories in its quest to climb the Ohio Valley Conference standings over the weekend. The Redhawks and OVC co-leader Eastern Kentucky needed overtime after playing two scoreless halves. Jacey Boyko provided the game-winner in the 94th minute, heading a Kasey Crowden cross into the top corner of the goal to give Southeast a dramatic 1-0 victory. The Redhawks fell behind Morehead State in the 19th minute of play on Sunday, but goals by Storm French and Torey Byrd gave Southeast a 2-1 comeback victory. Renee Kertz started both matches in goal, stopped 12 of 13 shots. Boyko (one goal, one assist) and Crowden (three assists) each posted three-point weekends while Paige Luehmann (two assists) assisted on both of Southeast's game-winning goals. The victories improved the Redhawks to 3-3-1 in the OVC, tying them for third in the league with 10 points.

About Belmont – In their first season in the OVC, the Bruins are 7-6-1 with a 3-2-1 mark in conference play. Belmont has won three of its past four conference matches. The Bruins are fourth in the OVC with 1.14 goals per match and their 1.17 goals against average is fifth in the conference. Katie Proud and Laura Harris are tied for the Bruins' lead with three goals apiece while Lauren Painter has dished out a team-high two assists. Nicole Berner has started all 14 of Belmont's matches and has a 1.19 goals against average, a .779 save percentage and three shutouts.

Abbott Plays a Lot – Senior defender Hayley Abbott has been a rock of durability in her time with the Redhawks. Abbott has started all 71 matches Southeast has played since she arrived on campus, a new school record. She has also played a school-record 6,319 minutes on the pitch.

Kertz in a Zone – The Redhawks have gotten stellar play out of senior goalkeeper Renee Kertz this season, who is playing soccer for the first time since high school after finishing up her softball career at Southeast last spring. Kertz has worked her way into the heavier end of a time share with Ashton Aubuchon, who was a first-team All-OVC pick in 2011. She has started 10 of Southeast's 16 contests and boasts a 0.93 goals against average, an .859 save percentage and three shutouts, each of which rank third in the OVC. Kertz has been even better in OVC play, boasting a 0.76 goals against average and a league-best .897 save percentage. She has allowed one goal or less in nine of her 10 starts.

Working Overtime – Southeast is no stranger to playing more than two halves of soccer this season. Five of the Redhawks' 16 matches have gone to overtime, which ties the most they have played in any season. Southeast also played five overtime matches in 2004 and 2007.

Success in Extra Time – The Redhawks notched a dramatic 1-0 overtime win over Eastern Kentucky on Friday night to snap a three-match winless streak. That victory was Southeast's first overtime win of 2012 (1-1-3) and snapped an 0-3-5 streak in overtime contests. Friday's win over EKU was Southeast's first overtime win since downing Belmont, 2-1, in double overtime on Aug. 22, 2010.
