CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. ­– The Southeast Missouri volleyball team opens a five match homestand on Tuesday night against regional rival Arkansas State at 6:30 p.m. Southeast won two matches last week including a 3-1 win over UT Martin in their home opener. The Redhawks also defeated Jacsonville State on Saturday night in Jacksonville in a battle of undefeated teams.

KFVS12.com is launching its sixth season of the Southeast Health WebCast, which features 13 Southeast Missouri athletic events this fall including four volleyball matches.

Block Party
The Redhawks recorded a season-high 16 blocks against UT Martin last Tuesday evening at Houck Field House. It was the most blocks since Southeast recorded 17 last season at Austin Peay. The 16 blocks Tuesday were also the most in a match at Houck Field House Since 2003 against Memphis.

Streaking
The Redhawks have won six straight contests dating back to their win against Kent State on Sept. 15. The six wins is the most since 2007.

Climbing The Charts
Junior setter Julie Shives ranks third all-time in assists at Southeast Missouri with 2,822. She recorded 942 assists in her first season and 1,180 in 2011. She is 25 sets away from being seventh all-time at Southeast in assists. She currently leads the OVC in assists at 10.31.

Series History
The Redhawks own a 19-16 record all0time against the Red Wolves. Southeast has won three of the last four between the two schools dating back to 2005. Arkansas State took the teams contests last year sweeping the Redhawks in Jonesboro.

Preseason All-OVC
Junior middle blocker Emily Coon and junior setter Julie Shives were named Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference by OVC coaches and sports information directors. Coon was named to Preseason All-OVC in 2011 and earned postseason All--OVC honors as well.

Preseason Polls
The Southeast Missouri volleyball team was picked third in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The  Redhawks received 192 points and two first place votes in this season's poll. Morehead State the defending OVC Champions were picked to win the league with 242 points and 22 first place votes. Newcomer Belmont was picked second with 198 points after winning the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2011.
