Cape Girardeu, Mo. - The Redhawks travel to Evansville, Ind. this weekend to take part in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational hosted by the University of Evansville. The Redhawks will open up play against Evansville at 4:00 p.m., Friday. Southeast will take on Arizona at noon on Saturday and will close out with Illinois-Chicago at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Road Warriors
The Redhawks open the season with a 13-game slate away from Houck Fieldhouse in 2011. Southeast will take part in three tournaments: Memphis Invitational, Indiana Tournament and Evansville Tournament to open the season. Southeast will also visit Arkansas State in a non-conference tilt. The Redhawks will close out their road swing with trips to OVC foes Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville before opening their home schedule against Murray State on September 20th.
Through Seven
Through seven games this season the Redhawks are averaging 11.8 kills per set, up from 11.4 in 2010. Southeast is also hitting .160, up from .135 in 2010.
First of Many
Head coach Julie Folliard earned her first victory of her collegiate coaching career over the weekend. Folliard, led the Redhawks to a 3-1 win over the University at Buffalo, Saturday in Bloomington, Ind.
New threat
Brittney Kalinoksi, a junior from Overland Park, Kan.,has developed into an offensive threat for the Redhawks. Kalinoksi has 72 kills on the season to lead Southeast. She had a career-high 12 kills against Buffalo and Youngstown State over the weekend.
Strong Showing
Senior Paige Dossey and Junior Karlee Lursen were named to the IU Classic All-Tournament Team over the weekend. The pair led the Redhawks to their first two wins of the season on Saturday.
Day of First
The Redhawks will see some new opponents this weekend in Evansville, Ind. The Redhawks will face the University of Arizona for the first time in program history. The match against the Wildcats also marks the first time since 1998 that Southeast will play an opponent from the PAC-12. The Redhawks will also face Illinois-Chicago for the first-time in program history Saturday.
