Volleyball Looks to Keep Streak Going at UT Martin

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri Redhawks travel to UT Martin, Friday evening to take on the Skyhawks in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at 6 p.m., CT. in Martin, Tennessee. The match features two of the top five teams in the OVC. Friday nights match can be seen on OVCSports.TV with a one game pass or year membership to the application.
 
Series History
The Redhawks hold an impressive 56-14 record all-time against the Skyhawks in a series that dates back to 1980. Southeast enjoyed a 32-0 record against UT Martin from 1988 to 200. Last season, UT Martin took both match ups against the Redhawks winning 3-1 on September 28th and 3-2 October 14th.
 
Visiting Vandals
The Redhawks hold a record of 19-11 at UT Martin dating back to 1982. From 1982-1991 Southeast held an impressive record of 9-1 against the Skyhawks in Martin, Tenn. Since 1992-93, the Redhawks have a 10-10 record at UT Martin.
 
Home Sweet Home
The Redhawks opened their home schedule with a trio of victories last week as Southeast defeated Murray State (3-2_,  Jacksonville State (3-1) and Tennessee Tech (3-1). Head coach Julie Folliard joined Cindy Gannon and Kerri Harris as Southeast head coaches to win their home debut.
 
Hammer Time
Junior Karlee Lursen of Apple Valley, Minn. had an outstanding weekend for the Redhawks. The junior led the Redhawks to a pair of 3-1 wins over Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech. Lursen had a season-high 19 kills against Jacksonville State. She also led the Redhawks with 17 kills against Tennessee Tech. Lursen ranks ninth in the Ohio Valley in kills averaging 2.98 per set.
 
Triple Double Trouble

Sophomore Julie Shives of Grove City, Ohio recorded a rare triple-double last Tuesday against Murray State. Shives finished the night with a season-high 46 set assists, 10 kills and 10 digs. Last week Shives recorded 132 set assists in three games, She currently has 539 set assists on the season and 1,481 in her career ranking eighth on the career assists chart at Southeast. Shives currently ranks eighth in the OVC in assists averaging 8.82 per set on the season.
 
The Dig on UT Martin
The Skyhawks come into the weekend sporting a record of 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference.  Last weekend, UT Martin dropped a pair of road games at Eastern Kentucky (3-1) and Morehead State (3-0).
 
UT Martin is hitting .181 as a team on the season ranking  fourth in the OVC. The Skyhawks are averaging 13.1 kills per set ranking second in the OVC. UT Martin also ranks second in the Ohio Valley in assists per set at 12.3.
 
Defensively, the Skyhawks lead the OVC in digs per set at 18.8. The Skyhawks also lead the Ohio Valley conference in blocking averaging 1.9 per set. UT Martin has 101 total blocks on the season.

The Skyhawks are led offensively by Ashley Doherty who has 161 kills on the season. She ranks seventh in the OVC in kills averaging 3.04 per set. Britany Wilburn ranks second on the team with 131 kills on the season. Setter Jenna Miller ranks second in the OVC in assists averaging 10.83 per set.

Defensively, UT Martin is paced by Kasey Elswick who is averaging a 6.89 digs per set to lead the Nation in the category. Wilburn leads the Skyhawks in blocks on the season averaging 0.98 per set as she ranks second in the Ohio Valley.
