CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team (6-2-1, 2-0-0 Ohio Valley) returns to Houck Field for the first time in over a month when it hosts OVC foes Eastern Illinois (3-6-2, 2-0-0 OVC) and SIU-Edwardsville (3-3-1, 1-1-0 OVC) on Friday (6:30 p.m. CT) and Sunday (1:00 p.m. CT). Sunday's match will feature a live video webcast courtesy of KFVS12.com.

Last Week – Southeast opened Ohio Valley Conference play in dominant fashion, outscoring Austin Peay and Murray State on the road by a combined score of 6-1 over the weekend. The Redhawks shut down the OVC's highest scoring team, Austin Peay, in a 3-1 victory on Friday night. Lauren Bozesky put Southeast on the board barely 10 minutes into the contest, but the Governors tied it up at one apiece before halftime. Freshman Erin Shulman stepped up in the second half, netting two goals in a 2:17 span early in the final frame to send the Redhawks to the victory. After lightning postponed Sunday's match at Murray State to Monday afternoon, senior Jessie Crabtree proved to be Southeast's catalyst. The senior factored into every Redhawk tally, finishing with a goal and two assists in a dominant 3-0 win. Ashton Aubuchon made six saves in each match over the weekend, capping the weekend with her third solo shutout of the year. Shulman and Aubuchon were named OVC Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, for leading Southeast to a perfect 2-0 mark on opening weekend.

Scouting Eastern Illinois – The Panthers are the only other team in the OVC to pull off a perfect opening weekend. EIU posted home victories over league foes Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State by identical 2-0 scores. That effort came after finishing 1-6-2 in non-conference play while being outscored 15-6. The Panthers are paced by Kristen Germann (four goals, 10 points) offensively, who has accounted for nearly half of Eastern Illinois' offense. The Panthers have used two goalkeepers this season, mainly Jessica Taldone (2-5-2, 1.23 goals against average, .814 save percentage and three shutouts), though Brittany O'Dell (1-1, 1.61 GAA, .733 save% and one shutout) has played 224 minutes in goal herself. The Panthers are 7th in the OVC in scoring (0.91 goals per game) and 5th in goals against average (1.31).

Scouting SIU-Edwardsville – The Cougars split their opening weekend in the OVC, dropping a 1-0 decision to Jacksonville State on Friday and downing Tennessee Tech by a 3-1 margin on Sunday. SIUE is second in the OVC with a 1.10 goals against average and its 1.71 goals per game figure is fourth in the league. Four players on the team have scored two or more goals this season, with SIUE's offense led by Michelle Auer (three goals, eight points). Meanwhile, Claire Lovercheck has logged all but 45 minutes in goal for the Cougars, posting a 2-3-1 record with a 1.18 goals against average, a .742 save percentage and two shutouts.

Free Kicks:

All-Time Series – Southeast is 4-9-3 all-time agianst Eastern Illinois and 3-1 against SIU-Edwardsville.

Last Meeting – Southeast blanked Eastern Illinois at Houck Stadium by a 1-0 score last season on Oct. 3, Courtney Luehmann tallied the lone goal on the 80th anniversary of Houck Stadium. The Redhawks and Cougars last met on Oct. 30, 2010, another 1-0 win by the Redhawks, this one coming in overtime.

OVC Honors – Erin Shulman and Ashton Aubuchon were named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively after their strong performances over the weekend. Shulman scored three goals, including one game-winner, and Aubuchon stopped 12 of 13 shots to lead the Redhawks to an unblemished 2-0 weekend to open conference play.

Bringing the D – Southeast's bread and butter has been its stellar defensive play. The Redhawks boast a conference-best 0.76 goals against average and five shutouts, all of which have come in the last seven matches. The Redhawks' top three defenders Nikki Edwards (815 minutes), Hayley Abbott (804 minutes) and Meg Herndon (759 minutes) have combined to play 2378 out of a possible 2490 minutes (95.5 percent of the minutes).

Magic Number is 2 – One of the trends emerging for Southeast this season is its success when scoring two goals or more this season. The Redhawks are a perfect 5-0 when they find the back of the net at least twice, but are 1-2-1 when scoring less than two goals.

Last Line of Defense – On the rare occassion that a quality scoring opportunity has presented itself for the opposition, sophomore goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon has been equal to the task. In addition to her strong overall numbers, Aubuchon has stopped 36 of 41 shots (.878 save percentage) and has a 0.62 goals against average with three solo shutouts in her last eight starts.

New Blood – Some of the newest members of the Redhawks are making the biggest impact on the scoresheet.  Freshman Erin Shulman (eight goals, 16 points) and senior transfer Jessie Crabtree (four goals, 10 points) pace the Southeast attack with a combined 12 goals and 26 points this season. Their offensive prowess has carried the Redhawks thus far as they are 6-0 when Shulman scores at least one goal and 3-0 when Crabtree records at least one point.
