Volleyball Soars Past Tennessee Tech, 3-1

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri volleyball team won their third straight match Saturday afternoon as the Redhawks soared past the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-12) at Houck Fieldhouse.

Southeast used a 12-point run in the first set to jump out to an 18-8 lead. The Golden Eagles attempted to make a comeback, but the Redhawks held them back as Southeast took the opening set 25-18.

The Redhawks took the second frame 25-20. TTU jumped out to a 4-1 lead on the Redhawks, but Southeast used a surge of six points to take a 10-6 lead.

TTU used a four-point run to take a 17-16 lead in the second frame.  As the Redhawks regrouped and used a three-point run and a two-point run to take the set and the 2-0 advantage in the match.

The third set saw the Redhawks hit a game-low .091 and commit eight errors in the set. The Golden Eagles capitalized on the Redhawks errors and took the third frame 25-20.

The fourth set saw the Redhawks swing away as Southeast hit a match-high .462 with 20 kills. Southeast held TTU to only eight kills in the set and a match-low hitting percentage of .088.

The Redhawks jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the set and never looked back leading by as much as 12 points at 18-6 as Southeast took the frame 25-12 and the match 3-1.

Southeast hit .273 on the afternoon with 61 kills. Southeast had nine blocks in the match. The Golden Eagles hit .155 on the match with 42 kills and five blocks.

Junior Karlee Lursen led the Redhawks as she added a game-high 17 kills for Southeast. Lursen also added 16 digs and two blocking assists.

Junior Brittney Kalinoski had 16 kills and added five digs and three blocking assists. Sophomore Emily Coon added 10 kills, hitting .222 with one solo block and four blocking assists.

Sophomore Julie Shives added 44 set assists in the match with a team-high 19 digs. Senior Paige Dossey added seven kills and 11 digs.

The Redhawks will be in action on Friday, September 30th as Southeast heads to UT Martin to take on the Skyhawks at 6 p.m., CT.
