Volleyball Drops Hard Fought Match to Hoosiers

Bloomington, Ind. - The Southeast Missouri volleyball team lost a hard fought 3-0 decision to Indiana University, Friday evening at the IU Classic in Bloomington, Ind. The scores of the match were 25-21, 26-24, and 33-31.

“We played really hard tonight, we were proud of our girls, we were swing away, and we played confident, “ said head coach Julie Folliard.

The Hoosiers (2-2) took the first set 25-21. Indiana hit .294 in the first set with 16 kills. Southeast (0-5) had 12 kills in the first frame, but registered eight errors in the set, hitting .114.

The Redhawks found themselves down 11-6 in the second frame, but Southeast used a 10-0 run to take a 16-11 advantage. The Redhawks hit a season-high .353 in the second set, downing 13 kills with only one attacking error.

“Serving was very aggressive during the 10-point run, we took them out of their system and we kept going after them,” said Folliard.

Southeast enjoyed a 22-16 advantage, but the Hoosiers fought their way back and managed to take the final four points and take the second frame 26-24.

Southeast jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set. The Redhawks controlled the match halfway through the frame taking a 14-9 lead. The Hoosiers battled back and took control looking to end the match.

But the Redhawks battled right back tying the score at 24-24. The two teams battled back and fourth, each team had chances to pick up the victory, but The Hoosiers outdueled the Redhawks taking the third set 33-31 and the match 3-0.

The Redhawks were lead by junior Karlee Lursen. The Apple Valley, Minn. Native had 12 kills for the Redhawks on the night. Lursen also added 12 digs.

Senior Holly Reynolds added a career-high 10 kills for Southeast. Reynolds a native of Ozark, Mo. hit a team-high .474 on night. Reynolds also added three blocking assists.

Holly played hard and is a hard worker, she is involved in every play and her ability to get open served her well tonight,” stated Folliard.

Junior Samantha Lowman added a team-high 15 digs.

The Redhawks will be in action tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. against the University of Buffalo.
