Volleyball Hosts Murray State In Home Opener Tuesday

Southeast vs. Murray State Game Notes

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Redhawks will open up their home schedule Tuesday evening hosting Murray State at 6:30 pm, CT at Houck Fieldhouse. The match against the Racers will be one of four volleyball matches carried on KFVS.com. Fans can locate the webcast by visiting http://www.kfvs12.com/link/510063/murray-state-vs-semo-volleyball. Veteran play-by-play announcer Brad Zaruba will call the action with Interim Director of Athletics Cindy Gannon providing the color commentary for the action.  Live stats will also be available for Tuesday's match

Homecoming

The Redhawks will open up their home schedule Tuesday night after playing 13 games on the road to open up the 2011 season. The Redhawks played in three tournaments over the stretch and played one non-conference match up as well as two OVC matches.

Home Openers in 2000's

Southeast has a record of 4-7 in home openers dating back to 2000. Last season, The Redhawks opened up their home campaign with a 3-2 win over Eastern Kentucky.

Conference Openers

Southeast Missouri opened up OVC play with a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Illinois last Friday evening in Charleston, Ill. The victory over the Panthers makes the Redhawks 13-7 in OVC openers dating back to 1992. The victory also marks the fourth straight win for the Redhawks in an OVC opener, that dates back to 2008.

Veteran Presence

Junior Karlee Lursen of Apple Valley, Minn. paced the Redhawks in a sweep of Eastern Illinois Friday evening. Lursen, had a season-high 15 kills against the Panthers.

Trend Setter

Brittney Kalinoksi, a junior from Overland Park, Kan.,has developed into an offensive threat for the Redhawks. Kalinoksi has 129 kills on the season to lead Southeast. She had a career-high 17 kills against Evansville at the Dunn Hospitality Invitational.

Climbing the Charts

Sophomore Julie Shives ranks eighth on the all-time set assists chart at Southeast Missouri. The sophomore has 406 set assists so far this season and has 1,348 for her career. During Shives freshman campaign, she had 942 set assists. Shives, is also also a threat to terminate the ball as well as Shives ranks fourth on the Redhawks in kills with 57 on the season. She also ranks second on the team with 143 digs on the season.

The Dig on Murray State

The Racers come into Tuesday night's match with a 2-11 overall record and a 2-0 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. Over the weekend, Murray State picked up wins over SIUE (3-1) and Eastern Illinois (3-1).

Murray State is hitting .156 as a team on the season averaging 11.93 kills per set. The Racers average 11.26 set assists per frame and 0.67 service aces per set. Defensively, the Racers average 16.58 digs per set and 1.19 blocks per frame.

Murray State is led by Teresa Krog who is averaging 3.44 kills per set on the season. Krog has 148 kills on the season, hitting .179. Cassy Woolverton is averaging 2.56 kills per set to go along with a team-high 21 blocks on the season. Sophomore Lia Havili has 298 set assists on the season averaging 8.05 per set. Defensively, Kayleah Sauer has a team-high 181 digs on the season averaging 4.21 per set. Sauer also has 29 kills on the season for the Racers.
