Volleyball Swept by SIU Edwardsville

Edwardsville, Ill. - The Southeast Missouri volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at SIU Edwardsville, Saturday afternoon. The scores of the match were 25-22, 25-19, and 25-15. The Redhawks move to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the OVC with the loss, while the Cougars move to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in conference. 

The Cougars took the first frame 25-22. The first set featured nine tied scores and five lead changes in a set that was closely contested.

The Redhawks hit .179 in the opening frame with 13 kills and six errors. SIUE managed to get down 16 kills in the opening set and hit .182, only percentage points higher than the Redhawks.

The second frame saw the Cougars take a 25-19 win as SIUE lead the entire frame. SIU Edwardsville had 15 kills in the frame compared to only 12 by Southeast.

The Cougars rolled to a victory in the third set winning 25-15 to take the match 3-0. SIUE hit a game-high .326 in the frame with 17 kills and only three errors. The Redhawks hit only .062 in the third frame.

SIUE had three players in double-figure kills on the afternoon. The Redhawks were led by sophomore Colleen Yarber, who had eight kills. Sophomore Emily Coon added six kills.

“Colleen was very aggressive today and that led to here terminating the ball well for us today,” said head coach Julie Folliard

Sophomore Julie Shives had 27 set assists for Southeast. Junior Samantha Lowman led the Redhawks in digs with 12.

Southeast will open up their home schedule Tuesday evening at Houck Fieldhouse as the Redhawks entertain Murray State at 6:30 pm.
