Southeast vs. Arkansas - Little Rock Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri (0-4) dropped their final game at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. Saturday afternoon. Arkansas- Little Rock (2-2) swept the Redhawks by scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-21.
Arkansas- Little Rock took the first set 25-23. The first frame saw neither team lead by more than two points.
The Redhawks and Trojans managed to knock down 16 kills in the first set. But, Arkansas- Little Rock out hit the Redhawks .270 to .163.
The Trojans were on fire in the second frame hitting a red-hot .452 on their way to a 25-14 win in the second set.
Southeast jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third frame forcing Arkansas State to take a timeout. A 6-0 streak and a pair of blocks by sophomore Emily Coon highlighted the early run.
The Trojans came back and tied the game at 16-16. Southeast took the lead at 20-18, but the Trojans managed to battle back on their way to a 25-21 victory and a 3-0 sweep of Southeast.
The Redhawks were led by Junior Brittney Kalinoski who had 10 kills. Junior Samantha Lowman led the way defensively with 11 digs. Sophomore Julie Shives dished out 26 set assists for Southeast.
Earlier today, Alabama A&M rallied after the first set to defeat Southeast Missouri 3-1 at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis Tenn. The Redhawks were defeated by the Bulldogs by scores of 25-17, 19-25, 19-25 and 19-25.
The Redhawks got out to a strong start in the opening set. Southeast made an 8-1 run in the opening frame to take control. Southeast held off the Bulldogs late in the set taking the set 25-17.
Southeast could not find their rhythm in the second set against the Bulldogs as Alabama A&M took the frame 25-19.
Each team made runs in the third set, but the Bulldogs capitalized on the Redhawks errors to take the third frame 25-19.
Junior Karlee Lursen scored five-straight points in the fourth set, but that was not enough to get the Redhawks back in the game as they fell 25-19, and 3-1 in the match.
Southeast was led by sophomore Colleen Yarber who posted a career-high 15 kills. Yarber also added 12 digs for Southeast. Kalinoski added 11 kills and senior Holly Reynolds added 10.
Defensively, senior Paige Dossey added a team-high 13 digs. Junior Samantha Lowman added 12 digs.
Southeast's Brittney Kalinoski was named to the All-Tournament Team. The junior, from Overland Park, Kan. had 40 kills over the weekend and added 27 digs and five service aces.
"Brittney was very consistent and terminated the ball well for us all weekend, she also played great defense for us," head coach Julie Folliard said.
The Redhawks will return to action next Friday at the Indiana University Tournament in Bloomington, Ind.
