IOWA CITY, Iowa - Sophomore goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon had a career-high eight saves in Southeast Missouri's 2-1 loss to Iowa Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

Southeast dropped to 1-1 on the young season, while Iowa improved to 2-0.

"Overall, it was a very good performance against a talented team from the Big 10 Conference," said Southeast head coach Heather Nelson. "We were able to put them under some pressure late in the game. We changed our attacking formation with 10 minutes remaining to try and get the equalizer, but their defense held strong."

Katie Nasenbenny scored both goals for the Hawkeyes. Nasenbenny scored on a header from 18 yards out off a free kick at the 6:27 mark of the first half. Morgan Showalter was credited with the assist on the play.

Jacey Boyko tied the game in the 40th minute (40:13) when she drilled a Nikke Edwards pass into the back of the net for the second goal of her career.

Nasenbenny scored the decisive goal off a penalty kick just 50 seconds into the final stanza. The kick was blocked, but Nasenbenny was there to knock in the rebound.

Nasenbenny finished with a game-high four shots, as Iowa outshot Southeast, 21-9.

Aubuchon's eight saves surpassed her previous career-high of seven against Arkansas State in 2010. She had five saves in the second half alone.

"Our team fought from start to finish and showed some great character on a tough opening weekend road trip," said Nelson.

Southeast returns to Cape Girardeau to host Arkansas State in its home-opener on Aug. 28. Game time is set for 1 p.m., CT, at Houck Stadium.
