NORMAL, Ill. - Newcomer Jessie Crabtree tallied two goals to lead Southeast Missouri to a 3-2 victory over Illinois State Friday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams.

Freshman Erin Shulman scored Southeast's other goal. The Redhawks posted their second-straight season-opening win.

"Our possessions were very good and we created some really dangerous scoring opportunities," said Southeast head coach Heather Nelson. "We had an opportunity to pull ahead by two goals late in the game, but their goalkeeper made a great save."

ISU (0-1) opened the scoring at the 12:00 mark of the first stanza when Rachel Tejada found the back of the net on a crossing pass from the deep right corner to make it 1-0 Redbirds.

Southeast tied the game with 16:00 left in the first half. Crabtree buried a shot off a crossing pass from Lauren Bozesky to knot the score at 1-1. The Marion, Ill. native is in her first season with the Redhawks after transferring from Missouri.

ISU regained the lead when Rachel Bostick headed a pass from Kristin Cooley into the back of the net with 55:59 on the clock in the second half.

However, the Redhawks tied the game again, this time, when Shulman tracked down a free ball and sent it past goalkeeper Aryn Newsom (56:49). Shulman finished the day with three shots on goal.

Crabtree added her second goal off a penalty kick at the 60:00 mark of the final period to give the Redhawks their first lead at 3-2. Crabtree scored two goals on three shot attempts in her Redhawk debut.

ISU outshot Southeast, 15-7, but the Redhawks were clutch down the stretch.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon turned away three shots in goal for Southeast.

Southeast returns to action at Iowa Sunday.
