MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Southeast Missouri Redhawks volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (18-25,19-25,25-14,26-24,9-15) decision at Morehead State Friday evening. Southeast dropped the first two sets, but took the third and fourth frames to force a fifth and deciding set.

“We responded well out of the intermission, and focused a lot of blocking, it helped us set up better offense and that helped us transition well,” said had coach Julie Folliard.

The Eagles (21-5, 16-1 OVC)  took the first frame 25-18. Morehead State got out to a hot start in the opening frame hitting .356. The Eagles also held the Redhawks to .205 hitting percentage.

The Redhawks (11-16, 9-7 OVC) and Eagles were tied at 10-10 halfway through the opening frame, but Morehead State used a five-point run to take the opening set.

The Redhawks continued to put pressure on the Eagles and force errors as Southeast held Morehead State to -.093 hitting percentage as Southeast took the set in impressive fashion 25-14.

The Redhawks and Eagles played a balanced set in the fourth frame with each team exchanging blows through the whole frame. Neither team led by more than three in the frame with the Eagles controlling most of the action.

The Redhawks found themselves down 6-2 in the fifth set. Southeast would battle back to tie the set at 8-8, but that was the as close the Redhawks would get as Southeast fell 15-9 in the set and 3-2 in the match

The Redhawks were led by sophomore Emily Coon who recorded 15 kills on the night while hitting at a .371 clip. Coon also added 10 blocks on the night for Southeast tying here career-high.

“Coon did a great job, she made Morehead State work hard from end to end and she did a great job of putting balls away offensively as well,” said Folliard.
