Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Redhawks return to Houck Fieldhouse Tuesday to take on Eastern Illinois in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at 6:30 p.m., CT. Tuesday's game is the opening of the Redhawk's 2011 “Dig for Life” Campaign. The match against the Panthers will be one of four volleyball matches carried on KFVS12.com. Dig For Life
Members of the Southeast volleyball team secure pledges per dig that will be tallied through October home matches at Houck Fieldhouse. The money raised is then allocated to Saint Francis Medi-cal Center for the campaign's purpose of educating women in the Southeast Missouri area about breast cancer awareness, providing early detection opportunities and improving prevention efforts. The Redhawks had 352 team digs in 2010. The Redhawk's top returner during last season's Dig for Life Campaign was
Julie Shives with 53 digs.
First Meeting
The Redhawks and Panthers met in the Ohio Valley Conference opener on Sept. 16th in Charleston, Ill. Southeast took that matchup 3-0. Senior
Paige Dossey paced the Redhawks with 19 digs on the night. Junior
Karlee Lursen had 15 kills to lead the Southeast offense in the sweep of the Panthers.
Home Sweet Home
The Redhawks opened their home schedule with a trio of victories as Southeast defeated Murray State (3-2), Jacksonville State (3-1) and Tennessee Tech (3-1). Head coach Julie Folliard joined
Cindy Gannon and Kerri Harris as Southeast head coaches to win their home debut.

Samantha Lowman and Sophomore
Julie Shives recorded career-highs in digs against UT Martin last Friday. Lowman, a native of Lincoln, Ill. tied her career high with 23 digs,. Shives, a native of Grove City, Ohio recorded 22 digs on the evening. The Redhawks had 81 digs on the night out digging the nations leader (UT Martin) by 13 digs.
The Dig on Eastern Illinois
The Panthers come into Tuesday night's contest with a 4-13 overall record and a 2-5 record in the OVC. Last weekend, EIU dropped a pair of home matches falling to Eastern Kentucky (3-1) and Morehead State (3-0).
Eastern Illinois is averaging 11.6 kills per set on the season ranking 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference. EIU is hitting .155 as a team ranking 10th in the OVC. The Panthers rank seventh in the OVC in services aces averaging 1.2 per set.
Defensively, EIU ranks seventh in the OVC in blocks averaging 1.5 per set. The Panthers rank 11th in the OVC in digs per set at 13.
The Panthers are led by Reynae Hutchinson who is averaging 2.98 kills per set ranking ninth in the OVC. Amy Martin ranks ninth in the OVC in hitting percentage at .246. Alison Berens has 39 blocks on the season (3 solo, 36 assisted) to lead the Panthers and rank eighth in the OVC.
