CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Redhawks return home for a brief one game home stand on Saturday afternoon against UT Martin at 2 p.m., CT. Saturday's contest will be the final Dig for Life match of the season. The Southeast Missouri volleyball team will honor survivors of breast cancer during the second and third sets. The survivors will receive pink volleyballs honoring their journey and courage. Saturday's contest can be seen on KFVS12.com by following the watch live link above. Earlier This Season Against UT Martin
The Redhawks dropped a 3-1 decision against the Skyhawks on September 30th as the Skyhawks snapped the Redhawks three game winning streak. The Redhawks were paced by junior
Samantha Lowman of Lincoln, Ill., who tied a career-high with 23 digs on the night. Shives also added 22 digs in the match.
Building Blocks
The Redhawks continue to lead the OVC in blocking during OVC matches as Southeast is averaging 2.15 blocks per set. Southeast had a season-high 17 blocks against Austin Peay on Oct. 7th. Sophomore
Emily Coon also leads the OVC in blocks during OVC matches as the Imperial, Mo. native is averaging 1.25 blocks per contest.
We Own the Night
The Redhawks are 7-2 in night games in Ohio Valley Conference Matches. The Redhawks have won four of those matches in the friendly confines of Houck Fieldhouse. Southeast is 5-1 at Houck Fieldhouse this season with their only mark coming against OVC leader Morehead State.
Double-Double Trouble
Sophomore
Julie Shives of Grove City, Ohio is a double-double machine for the Redhawks this season. Shives has recorded 19 double-doubles this season in 25 games. She has recorded double-doubles in 13 of 14 OVC games this season as her streak was snapped against Morehead State as Shives fell one kill short of extending her streak. Earlier this season against Murray State Shives recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 10 digs and 46 assists.
Road to 2,000
Sophomore
Julie Shives is eighth in assists all-time at Southeast Missouri with 1,813 assists. Shives needs only 187 more to reach 2,000 for her career. As a freshman Shives recorded 942 assists.
The Dig on UT Martin
The Skyhawks come into the weekend sporting a record of 15-9 overall and 10-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Last weekend, UT Martin split a weekend set falling to Morehead State (3-1) and downing EKU (3-0).
UT Martin is hitting .187 as a team on the season ranking fourth in the OVC. The Skyhawks are averaging 12.89 kills per set ranking third in the OVC. UT Martin also ranks second in the Ohio Valley in assists per set at 12.16.
Defensively, the Skyhawks lead the OVC and rank third in the country in digs per set at 18.88 The Skyhawks rank second the Ohio Valley conference in blocking averaging 1.94 per set. UT Martin has 101 total blocks on the season.
The Skyhawks are led offensively by Ashley Doherty who has 272 kills on the season. She ranks ninth in the OVC in hitting percentage at .258. Kelly Hogan ranks second on the team with 213 kills on the season. Setter Jenna Miller ranks second in the OVC in assists averaging 10.48 per set.
Defensively, UT Martin is paced by Kasey Elswick who is averaging a 6.80 digs per set to rank third in the nation in the category. Brittany Wilburn leads the Skyhawks in blocks on the season averaging 1.00 per set as she ranks third in the Ohio Valley.
