Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision at Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – The Southeast Missouri volleyball team (10-15, 6-8 OVC) dropped a 3-0 (24-26, 17-25, 14-25) decision against Murray State (6-19, 6-8 OVC) Tuesday night in Murray, Ky. The Redhawks hit a season-low .061 in the match as it marks the first time this season Southeast has had a sub .100 hitting percentage.
 
The Racers took the opening frame 26-24. Murray State jumped out to an early lead, but the Redhawks settled down as the teams engaged in a back and fourth affair.
 
Murray State looked in control late at 24-21, but the Redhawks clawed their way back into the set and tied the match at 24-24 after a Brittney Kalinoski kill. But the Racers took the final two points off of a pair of errors to take the frame.
 
Southeast struggled in the opening set hitting .179 with eight errors. The Racers a solid .300 in the frame committing only three errors.
 
The Redhawks offensive woes continued in the second set as the Redhawks fell 25-17. Southeast was down 19-17, but the Racers scored the final six points of the set to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
Southeast hit .036 in the second set with only seven kills and six attacking errors. The Racer's offense continued to click as Murray State hit .235 in the frame.
 
The Racers offense continued their roll in the third frame as their defense continued to stifle the Redhawks. Murray State hit .222 in the frame as they took the set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
 
The Redhawks were led by Sophomore Julie Shives and Kalinoski who each recorded six kills. Shives also added 10 digs and 17 assists as the setter has recorded a double-double in 13 of 14 OVC matches.
 
The Redhawks will return to action on Saturday as they play host to UT Martin in a 2 p.m, CT. start at Houck Fieldhouse.
