Volleyball Heads to Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State This Weekend

The Redhawks will return home next Saturday in a clash with UT Martin

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Redhawks hit the road for a three game road stretch as the Redhawks will play a pair of games this weekend and one next Tuesday evening. Southeast will open up the road trip at Tennessee Tech on Friday evening at 7 p.m., CT. The Redhawks will close out the weekend with a Saturday afternoon match at 2 p.m., CT. against Jacksonville State. Earlier This Season Against TTU
The Redhawks defeated Tennessee Tech 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-12) at Houck Fieldhouse on Sept. 24th. Junior Karlee Lursen led the Redhawks as she added a game-high 17 kills for Southeast. Lursen also added 16 digs and two blocking assists. Junior Brittney Kalinoski had 16 kills and added five digs.
 
Earlier This Season Against JSU
The Redhawks downed the Gamecocks 3-1 (25-15,27-25,16-25,25-23) on Sept. 23rd at Houck Fieldhouse. Karlee Lursen, a junior from Apple Valley, Minn. Led the Redhawks with a season-high 19 kills, falling one short of her career-high of 20 kills. Lursen also added a team-high 19 digs.  Sophomore Emily Coon hit .348 on the night and added nine kills for the Redhawks, she also added a game-high four blocks.
 
We Own the Night
The Redhawks are 6-1 in night games in Ohio Valley Conference Matches. The Redhawks have won four of those matches in the friendly confines of Houck Fieldhouse.   
 
Double-Double Trouble
Sophomore Julie Shives of Grove City, Ohio is a double-double machine for the Redhawks this season. Shives has recorded 16 double-doubles this season in 22 games. She has recorded double-doubles in 10 of 11 OVC games this season as her streak was snapped against Morehead State Saturday as Shives fell one kill short of extending her streak. Earlier this season against Murray State Shives recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 10 digs and 46 assists. 
 
Force in the Middle
Sophomore Emily Coon recorded a career-high 16 kills against Morehead State last Saturday. Over the weekend she also added 12 blocks. Coon had a career-high 10 blocks against Austin Peay two weekends ago, she finished the week with 23 blocks. The Imperial, Mo. native leads the OVC in blocking during conference games averaging 1.27 per set.
 
The Dig on Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles come into the weekend with an overall record of 3-19 with a 2-10 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Golden Eagles dropped a 3-1 decision Tuesday night at UT Martin.
 
Tennessee Tech is averaging 10.02 kills per set ranking 11th in the OVC, while hitting .138 on the season also ranking 11th in the OVC. The Golden Eagles average 9.53 set assists per set and 0.80 service aces per frame.
 
Defensively, TTU averages 13.41 digs per frame ranking 11th in the OVC and 1.73 blocks per set, ranking fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference.
 
Natalie Penrod who has 196 kills on the season leads the Golden Eagles. Penrod averages 2.76 kills per set. Penrod also averages 2.06 digs per set. Ellen Conti is averaging 2.49 kills per set on the season with 189 kills. Allison May has 462 digs on the year to lead TTU as she averages 4.68 digs per set, which ranks fourth in the OVC. Kelsey Gray leads TTU in blocks with 64.
 
The Dig on Jacksonville State

The Gamecocks come into the weekend sporting a record of 6-16 overall and 4-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Jacksonville State dropped a pair of 3-2 matches over the weekend against EIU and SIUE.
 
Jacksonville State is hitting .166 as team on the season ranking ninth in the OVC.  JSU is averaging 11.98 kills per set (eighth OVC). The Gamecocks are averaging 11.07 assists per set ranking eighth in the OVC as well as 1.35 service aces per set, which ranks fourth in the OVC.
 
Defensively, the Gamecocks average 15.88 digs per contest ranking seventh in the OVC. Jacksonville State averages 1.88 blocks per set ranking second in the OVC.
           
Stephanie Koontz, who is averaging 2.95 kills per set leads Jacksonville State. Koontz is hitting .290 on the season ranking sixth in the OVC. Kelly Cole has 335 digs on the season averaging 3.99 per set ranking ninth in the OVC to lead the Gamecocks defensively. Lizza Senekova ranks fourth in the OVC in blocks at 0.95.
