Marland Smith had a breakout week as Southeast Missouri wrapped up its Ohio Valley Conference home schedule with a pair of wins. A native of Little Rock, Ark., Smith knocked down 12 three-pointers in two starts. He began the week by breaking Southeast’s all-time career record in three-pointers made when he scored 13 points and went 3-of-4 from behind the arc in the Redhawks win over SIUE (Feb. 7). Two days later, Smith erupted for a season-high 29 points and tied a Southeast single-game record nine threes against Eastern Illinois. He shot a scorching 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field against the Panthers. Smith, who now has 229 career three-pointers, surpassed Derek Winans (219 from 2001-05) for the school’s new mark. Smith finished his red-hot week by shooting 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from three-point range, averaging 21 points per game.
