Romana Tarajova was named the Ohio Valley Conference women's tennis Freshman of the Year and earned First-Team All-OVC honors, the league announced Thursday. Tarajova is the third Southeast tennis player to win OVC Freshman of the Year and second in three years as Oleksandra Doroshenko garnered the award in 2017. Tarajova who hails from Dolný Kubín, Slovakia, notched a 13-5 record at the top singles position in 2019 with a 5-3 mark in conference matches. In doubles, Tarajova fashioned a 9-5 (4-1 OVC) dual record with Manuela Barriga at the third slot. Tarajova helped Southeast advance to the Semifinals of the 2019 OVC Women's Tennis Championship with their first win at the Championship in 16 years, a 4-1 victory over No. 4 seed Belmont Friday. She triumphed over Peyton Lee, 6-4, 6-4, at the top singles position.
